    The West Fargo Park District is seeking a skilled and motivated Fleet Maintenance Specialist to join our Operations team.     Position Overview

    As a Fleet Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing equipment issues, and ensuring the safety and reliability of the Park District's fleet. You'll work closely with the Park Foreman and Assistant Park Foreman and play a key role in maintaining the functionality and longevity of our vehicles and equipment across parks and facilities.

    Key Responsibilities

    Fleet Maintenance & Repairs:
    • Diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment, including trucks, tractors, mowers, skid steers, utility vehicles, trailers, and small engines.
    • Create and implement a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
    • Maintain shop equipment, tools, and supplies; ensure the shop is safe and functional.
    • Design and fabricate custom parts or solutions as needed using welding and fabrication skills.

    Recordkeeping & Inventory Management:
    • Maintain accurate service and maintenance records using computerized systems.
    • Monitor and manage inventory of tools, parts, fluids, and consumables.
    • Assist with long-term fleet planning, including equipment purchases and replacements.

    Team Support & Communication:
    • Train and instruct staff on basic preventative maintenance procedures.
    • Provide technical input and collaborate on equipment usage and scheduling.
    • Operate equipment as needed for diagnostics and ensure proper functionality post-repair.

    Event & Park Support:
    • Provide on-site repairs and maintenance at various park locations as needed.
    • Support general park maintenance efforts and assist with operational needs as assigned.

    Work Schedule

    This is a full-time, year-round position. Primarily weekdays with occasional evening or weekend work depending on operational needs and events. Some duties require working in varying weather conditions and around moving equipment.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience:
    • Associate degree in automotive mechanics or related field – OR –
    • 2+ years of experience in a related mechanical position – OR –
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

    Skills & Requirements:
    • Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair skills.
    • Ability to use diagnostic software, maintain digital records, and source parts online.
    • Proficient in welding, fabrication, and shop tool usage.
    • Valid driver's license required.
    • Must possess or be willing to obtain any licenses or certifications needed for the role.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Frequent sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and climbing in a shop or outdoor setting.

    Work Environment:
    • Exposure to varying weather conditions, fumes, dust, and equipment noise.
    • Work may include handling hazardous chemicals and working around heavy machinery.
