    FLEET MECHANIC

    General Summary of the Position:

    This position is technical and skilled role responsible for inspecting, servicing, and repairing company-owned tractors, trailers, heavy equipment and vehicles both in the maintenance shop and in the field. The mechanic position requires experience servicing and performing maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs on fleet that may consist of ½ to 1-ton pickups and tandem trucks, and off-road equipment in a safe, efficient, quality minded and client focused manner.

    Major Functions of the Job

    1. Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturer’s specifications including engines, transmissions and clutches, suspension and steering, fuel and ignition (gas and diesel), electrical systems, brakes, HVAC systems, malfunctions and emergency roadside repair in a safe, efficient, and quality manner.
    2. Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on fleet available that can consist of ½ to 1-ton pickups and tandem trucks, trailers, mid-size trucks & heavy equipment to maximize the safety, productivity, and life of the unit.
    3. Repair vehicles and equipment inside the yard, maintenance shop and in the field as directed.
    4. Safely repair vehicles that have broken down on the road to ensure that the Company’s equipment is returned to operation in a safe and efficient manner.
    5. Manage or follow the scheduling and perform of all routine service maintenance for a fleet in excess of 90 vehicles and equipment.
    6. Follow scheduling of work to maximize the workday and meet deadlines. Coordinate with project leadership to triage maintenance and service repairs with vendors, as needed.
    7. Safely operate hand/power tools and equipment required to do each job; care for and maintain these tools and equipment to prolong the useful life.
    8. Observes safety and security procedures, reports potentially unsafe conditions, reports injuries/accidents immediately, demonstrates safe behavior at all times, especially when using company property and/or operating equipment or vehicles.
    9. Safely operate company owned SUV and up to ¾-ton pickup trucks.
    10. Performs other job-related duties as required.
    11. Adapt to changing and on-call schedule as needed.

    Manage changing workload and priorities for regional goals, including working during snow and ice season or other weather or emergency related events.

    1. Attend weekly meetings to report on the health of the fleet, providing updates on maintenance status, repair needs, and operational readiness.

    Minor Functions of the Job

    1. Complete daily logs and perform routine maintenance checks on assigned vehicles: check fluids, air filter, tire pressure, change tire, etc.
    2. Properly complete Daily Work Reports.
    3. Participate in weekly safety meetings and required training.
    4. Be a dependable and reliable member of the team.
    5. Show initiative; seek out work and get the job done without being told.
    6. Provide assistance to other workers as necessary.
    7. Communicate clearly with supervisors and other team members.

    Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

    1. Must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 lbs. frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
    2. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
    3. Regularly required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear.
    4. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
    5. Will ascend/descend structures to perform job duties.
    6. Work safe and independently in vehicle traffic zones.
    7. Ability to work safely in a wide range of environmental and weather conditions (i.e. work in hot, cold or wet conditions for extended periods of time).
    8. Ability to stand for extended periods of time while operating equipment.
    9. Must wear personal protective equipment at all times on job site.

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED required; college courses preferred, but not required
    • 1-2 years of automotive or diesel experience preferred
    • Vocational or Technical certification preferred
    • Knowledge of and experience with dual propane fuel systems preferred, but not required
    • Working knowledge in the use of hand tools required
    • Speak, read, write and comprehend the English language
    • Demonstrated effective leadership abilities
    • Maintain company standards for background checks (i.e. criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing)
    • Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations
    • Carry out simple arithmetic functions
    • Maintain proper safety equipment required for each job
    • Neat, clean and presentable appearance
    • Knowledge and ability to adapt to the latest technology
    • Ability to use smart phones and applications
    • Ability to adjust to changing work schedule

    Special Position Requirements

    This position requires independent and teamwork under ranging weather and environmental conditions, including high vehicle traffic operations. All employees must adhere to Jorgensen’s safety policy, employment policies, procedures and programs and contribute to the PACT culture.
