Position Summary
The Fleet Technician / Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of company vehicles, including school buses and other fleet equipment. This role ensures all vehicles are safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles, including school buses, vans, and support vehicles
Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and complete required documentation
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and perform necessary repairs
Ensure all vehicles meet DOT, state, and company safety standards
Perform brake, engine, transmission, and suspension repairs
Maintain accurate service records and repair logs
Respond to road calls and emergency repairs as needed
Assist with fleet inspections and preparation for state inspections
Maintain a clean and organized work area
Follow all company safety policies and procedures
Qualifications
Previous experience as a mechanic or fleet technician (school bus or diesel experience preferred)
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and vehicle diagnostics
Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment
Valid driver’s license (CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements preferred or willingness to obtain) - Required
Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical work
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
ASE Certification(s)
Experience working with school buses or commercial fleets
CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
Work Environment
Shop and outdoor work environment
Exposure to weather, noise, and mechanical hazards
May require occasional evenings or weekends
