  • Responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct initial patient assessments and comprehensive re-assessments every 24 hours.
    • Direct, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care based on established practice standards.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes.
    • Administer medications/treatments, interpret diagnostic tests, and deliver patient/family education.
    • Manage care for behavioral health patients using therapeutic communication techniques.
    • Apply age-specific considerations and cultural diversity principles across all care settings.
    • Act as a clinical resource person and support YKHC's organizational mission.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Guide and supervise Unit Secretaries and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.

    Qualifications & Licensing

    • Education: Graduate of an NLN-approved nursing program.
    • Experience: New graduates accepted. Special consideration given to candidates with both pediatric and adult experience.
    • Licensure: Active, unencumbered Registered Professional Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
    • Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
    • Must pass and maintain all position-specific competencies.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Clinical Practice: Thorough knowledge of the Alaska Nursing Statutes, medical terminology, care management, and clinical equipment.
    • Communication: Strong written and oral communication for accurate documentation, patient advocacy, and team collaboration.
    • Problem Solving & Math: Ability to solve practical clinical problems, calculate dosages/rates accurately, and interpret varied written or oral instructions.
    • Flexibility: Capability to work independently within established limits and adapt to flexible scheduling needs.
