    The Massachusetts Medical Society is the statewide professional association for physicians and medical students. We are dedicated to educating and advocating for the patients and physicians of Massachusetts. We offer online CME courses and live events that award continuing medical education credits. The Society, under the auspices of NEJM Group, publishes the New England Journal of Medicine, a leading global medical journal and web site, and NEJM Journal Watch alerts and publications covering 12 specialties.

     

    We are currently seeking a Digital Engagement/Web Specialist to work in our Waltham, MA office.

     

    The Digital Engagement/Web Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing innovative digital and social media strategies for online community engagement in support of the goals of the organization's Strategic Plan and Core Values. S/he manages the day-to-day operation of the MMS website and search engine optimization (SEO) efforts, ensuring that site functionality and navigation meet overall performance goals. The Digital Engagement/Web Specialist partners with stakeholders to ensure the site provides content and functionality that meet the business needs of the organization.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Manages and monitors the operation, efficiency and maintenance of the MMS website, including responding to troubleshooting issues and overseeing upgrades as needed.
    2. Collaborates with staff and management to ensure the website aligns with brand strategy and meets organizational standards.
    3. Reviews website functionality and makes recommendations for improvement of lead generation and conversion effectiveness.
    4. Plans for, schedules, and designs content and functionality/navigation changes with an eye toward mobile responsiveness and ensuring alignment with organizational strategy.
    5. Manages user-experience projects as well as website enhancements and redesigns, including coordinating with Membership, Communications and Marketing staff as well as external vendors as needed.
    6. Develops and executes strategies for tracking and tagging web content in coordination with search engine optimization (SEO) goals - general and keyword specific.
    7. Implements link building campaigns in coordination with SEO goals. Creates and evaluates URLs for SEO.
    8. Reports on key website metrics using Google Analytics. Monitors web analytics dashboards and reports and identifies opportunities to enhance performance and user experience.
    9. Oversees MMS digital and social media platforms including developing and implementing strategy recommendations and managing posting and monitoring of MMS Twitter feeds, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram accounts.
    10. Develops and maintains a master social media calendar for MMS Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
    11. Establishes clear digital/social media plans and goals across all platforms and consistently analyzes and tracks against KPIs and objectives; collaborates with other departments to ensure that PR, marketing and social media campaigns and concepts are appropriately integrated and amplified across all platforms.
    12. Responsible for monthly reporting and performance metrics.
    13. Keeps up to date with industry trends and best practices including attending related conferences, courses, and seminars.
    14. Additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • A Bachelor's degree in Digital Communications, English, Journalism, Communications and/or Marketing, or equivalent relevant experience is required.
    • At least 5 years of related experience in website management and digital/social content strategy and development.
    • Advanced skills in website content management (such as Ektron, Drupal, SharePoint and/or WordPress), HTML, cascading style sheets, SEO and marketing analytics; proficient in Google Analytics and hashtag best practices.
    • Proven experience developing social media campaigns targeted at diverse audiences (for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn).
    • Experience with social media advertising platforms for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
    • Proficiency in Office Suite, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with Hootsuite and Meltwater a plus.
    • Discretion and excellent communication skills; an ability to create clear and compelling communications orally and in writing.
    • Superior time management and organizational skills as well as strong initiative to complete projects on time; must be able to work independently, multi-task and balance multiple projects at a time.
    • Strategic and creative thinker who is self-motivated and proactive.
    • Strong attention to detail with an analytical mind and outstanding problem-solving skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and consultative communication skills with proven ability to interact with staff at all levels.
    • Must be equally comfortable and effective in a team-based environment and as an individual contributor.
    • Familiarity with medical content is a plus, as is a motivation to develop effective ways to engage users.
    • Marketing experience in the medical field is desirable.
