    DIESEL TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE JOB DESCRIPTION

    Floyd’s Truck Center is seeking to recruit, develop and train new diesel technicians for two (2) entry level training positions currently available in our Sidney and Scottsbluff Nebraska locations.

     

    Floyd’s Truck Center is a federally qualified business participating in the National Registered Apprentice System, having met standards approved by the US Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship. Registration No. 2020-NE-74857

     

    Floyd’s Truck Center is seeking individuals with a strong desire, mechanical aptitude and commitment to begin and complete an 8,000-hour training track through Daimler Trucks USA over four (4) successive calendar years, which is designed to establish proficiency in on-board computer diagnosis, repair and maintenance of all areas in diesel automotive power units.

     

     

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Comply with all company policies, local work and safety rules, as well as federal, state, and local regulations that govern the Federal Registered Apprentice Program.

    • Perform the required training coursework and/or computer-based training which is pre-designed to move trainees through to obtaining a course completion certificate, recognized by the US Federal Government within the following areas:

      • Diesel Engine Repair, Drive Systems, Fuel & Electrical Systems, Steering & Brake Systems, Chassis & Springs, Cooling & Lubrication Systems, Hydraulics and Welding, Computer Diagnostics & Software and Safety & Business Communications.
    • Participate in all training programs; maintain and update safety skills and knowledge; keep current with hazardous material training requirements.

    • Communicate clearly with program mentors and perform duties in a manner that promotes superior customer service and professionalism within the company and the industry.

     

    SPECIAL SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be at least 16 years of age for the youth track and 18 years of age for the adult track.

    • Prior Diesel Technician or mechanical experience is not required.

    • Must have the ability to use tools and equipment of the trade and preventative maintenance inspection methods.

    • Must be willing to invest in core mechanic tools, to perform your job functions.

    • Must be able to learn inspecting and analyzing defects in equipment and use a variety of computers and tools with skill. Must be able to document and enter computer work records.

    • Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

    • Must be able to read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, read orders and work instructions, and make accurate entries in the daily log.

    • Must be able to follow posted safety rules and safe operating procedures to insure proper techniques, such as lifting, are performed in the manner as which is described.

    • Ability and willingness to work all scheduled hours, including overtime.

     

     

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS

    • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and maintain balance for extensive periods of time.

    • Ability to frequently lift up to 58 lbs from 0” to 36” and carry objects up to 50 feet. Occasionally lift up to 80 lbs.

    • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl frequently to work on vehicles and equipment.

    • Ability to frequently twist, push, and pull from a variety of positions to work on equipment. Ability to frequently grip and grasp mechanic tools and parts. Manipulative skills and dexterity to operate equipment and hand tools.

    • Ability to frequently climb to get in vehicles, on a step ladder to reach the engine compartment and stairs. Ability to climb and work up to 15” above ground may be required.

    • Ability to reach frequently overhead as well as horizontally while laying on back.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

     

    Environmental working conditions vary and trainee may encounter vibration, noise, odors, and extremes in temperature and wind as well as exposure to varied weather, varied surfaces, sharp edges, varied lighting and confined and congested areas and occasional exposure to petroleum-based products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, and grease, detergent cleaning solutions, dust, fumes and chemicals.
