  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

     

    This position is responsible for directing, developing, and overseeing the environmental, health and safety policies and procedures for Dole Fresh Vegetables. Provide environmental, health and safety support to all operational groups in DFV ensuring that all practices are following federal, state and county regulations including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, and DOT over multiple states.

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

     

    • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local legislation and codes governing environmental, health and safety.

    • Responsible for the implementation of all environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.

    • Interface with regulatory agencies to including CHP, EPA, OSHA, and DOT.

    • Conduct safety and environmental audits of all operating facilities within DFV including PHA, PSM and OSHA programs.

    • Implement initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents as well as annual review and implement the Company’s Target Zero Safety System.

    • Implement accident investigation, data analysis, recurrence prevention programs and procedures, and ensure corrective actions are followed through.

    • Respond and provide direction in all emergency situations.

    • Ensure all recordkeeping is timely and conforms to company mandates.

    • Responsible for incorporating and following all Food Safety Requirements and GMPs as applicable to position.

    • Managerial oversite of the employee health centers in Springfield, OH and Bessemer City, NC.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    • 8-10 years preferred in safety management.
    • Strong background in OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations at the federal and state level.
    • Working knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems and regulatory requirements.
    • Ability to make decisions and be process and results driven.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in oral and written form.
    • Bilingual/biliterate English/Spanish
    • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; to gather and analyze information skillfully.

    EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

     

    • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in occupational health and environmental safety or a related field

    • Most Preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by Board of Certified Safety Professional and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by American Board of Industrial Hygiene

     

    EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT

     

    • 4 direct reports: Safety Compliance Managers. Dotted-line reporting of the VA Plant Safety Compliance Managers.  Number of direct or indirect reports is subject to change.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time; ability to answer phones and utilize a variety of office equipment.  Ability to lift, stand, stoop, and perform otherwise physical functions required in normal office settings.
