Job Summary
The Foam-In-Place (FIP) Injection Molding Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting foam dispensing and molding processes to ensure consistent product quality, efficiency, and compliance with specifications. This role works closely with production, automation, quality, and maintenance teams to support daily operations, troubleshoot process issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives related to FIP applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and maintain Foam-In-Place (FIP) injection molding and dispensing processes
- Set, monitor, and adjust process parameters including flow rates, pressures, temperatures, and cure times
- Troubleshoot FIP process issues such as voids, adhesion failures, dimensional variation, and cosmetic defects
- Support new product launches, tooling trials, and process validations
- Collaborate with automation and maintenance teams to support FIP dispensing equipment, robots, and controls
- Analyze process data to reduce scrap, improve cycle times, and enhance overall process capability
- Support quality systems by maintaining control plans, work instructions, PFMEAs, and process documentation
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Train operators and technicians on proper FIP setup, operation, and best practices
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and company standards related to chemicals and equipment
- Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Plastics, Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or related field) or equivalent experience
- Previous experience with Foam-In-Place (FIP), polyurethane dispensing, or injection molding processes
- Strong understanding of molding and dispensing equipment, materials, and tooling
- Experience setting and troubleshooting automated or robotic dispensing systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and process documentation
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
- Proficient computer skills and experience with process data analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with polyurethane foams, gasketing, or sealing applications
- Familiarity with automated dispensing systems and robotics
- Knowledge of quality systems such as IATF 16949, ISO 9001, or similar
- Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments
