Position Title: Sewing Technician

Reports to: Operations Manager

Primary Objective

The responsibilities of the Sewing Technician are to sew, stitch, and finish product to customer project requirements and scope. This individual will work with a wide variety of fabrics, and be involved with complex patterning, using Seiko brand industrial sewing machines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:

1. Prepare sewing machines by changing needles and thread, oiling and changing bobbin, and securing attachments
2. Sew materials together using industrial sewing machines
3. Follow written work orders to manufacture quality products successfully the first time
4. Complete work according to customer requirements for accuracy and in time allotted for job
5. Ability to read and verify pattern accuracy
6. Offer solutions to sewing problems at hand and long-term improvements in sewing procedures
7. Perform preventive maintenance on sewing equipment
8. Perform general housekeeping and inventory functions within the department
9. Ability to live pattern preferred
10. Ability to pass a sewing test
11. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Sew a variety of materials including Cordura, vinyl, webbing and rubber
• Strong background using Seiko equipment, sewing vinyl and rubber
• Must be proficient in math, able to use measuring devices
• Ability to multi-task various projects while maintaining a high level of detail
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Must be an effective communicator
• Eager to learn and take initiative
• Must be a team player, with a positive attitude
• Willingness to receive training and constructive coaching
• Must be able to read and understand all job orders
• High school diploma/GED
• Minimum 2 years’ experience with industrial sewing, preferred
• Background in costume design, upholstering, or fashion design, preferred

** Physical Demands and Work Environment**

Must be able to verbally communicate clearly (regularly talk and hear), read at a distance and close to eyes with or without correction. Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. The job responsibilities are performed in the office or in the marketplace. Up to 25% travel may be required.
