JOB LOCATION - JERSEY CITY, NJ (IN-PERSON)
We are a 60+ year, small, family-owned distributor seeking an individual who is interested in being an integral part of the continuous growth of our company. The candidate must have the desire to help develop the company into an even more successful specialty food distributor. The hands-on Operations Manager will oversee the inbound, outbound and complete warehouse and transportation operations of both day and night shifts. The candidate will also interact with Purchasing, Customer Service, Sales, IT and Accounting Departments and report to company owners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5 - 10+ years warehousing/food distribution and transportation management experience preferred
- Background in logistics and manual and computerized routing
- Experience with supervising union workers and involvement with contract negotiations
- Experience with the operation, PM and training of all warehouse machinery
- Knowledgeable in DOT, OSHA, FDA and EPA regulations
- Experience with WMS and TMS programs helpful
- Knowledgeable in inventory control procedures and improvements
- Bachelor's degree preferably in Logistics, Supply Chain or Business Management
- Experience in warehouse expansion/restructuring projects a plus
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures operational excellence in all warehouse and transportation areas, that inventory is received appropriately and efficiently and safely processed in the warehouse.
- Oversees routing/transportation/delivery processes.
- Assists owners with the evaluation of the effectiveness of and recommends alternatives for work methods, procedures, controls and staffing to achieve accurate and timely movement and processing of product; manage to ensure warehouse layout is optimally aligned for maximum efficiency as seasonality and inventory needs require.
- Ensures the efficient management of labor hours, travel, fuel and consumable supplies within budget and work schedules.
- Develops efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures and assists with the implementation of changes within inbound and outbound warehouse and transportation operations.
- Maintains employee relations through regular department or pre-shift meetings; maintains on-going interaction; keeps open communication channels with employees by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures; monitors employee morale.
- Enforces safety procedures i.e. conducts employee training and observations and accident/incident investigations to determine root causes, and conducts routine safety inspections.
- Responsible for the upkeep/improvement recommendations for entire structure and operation of facility.
- Performs management functions of all warehouse staff and team selection, training and development, discipline, performance reviews and/or terminations.
- As needed, performs the duties of employees supervised and other related duties.
- Handles labor relations/disciplinary issues and contract negotiations.
- Maintains/processes all DOT, OSHA, FDA and EPA paperwork/compliances.
- Performs required truck, warehouse, grounds and equipment maintenance and sanitation procedures.
- Responsible for the security of the entire premises.
- Ability to work non-traditional business hours if necessary and on-call 24/7.
