    Food Processing Plant Mechanic – Cape May, NJ

    Our client, one of the largest seafood harvesting, processing, and distribution companies on the eastern seaboard, currently has an opening available for a Food Processing Plant Mechanic in their Cape May facility.

    The Food Processing Plant Mechanic will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment used in food manufacturing and packaging including conveyors, pumps, mixers, and automated systems.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on plant machinery and equipment.
    • Diagnose mechanical issues and implement effective repairs to minimize downtime.
    • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems related to food processing equipment.
    • Install and align new equipment according to manufacturer specifications and food safety standards.
    • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and part usage using CMMS or maintenance logs.
    • Collaborate with production and sanitation teams to ensure equipment meets operational and hygiene standards.
    • Assist in the development of maintenance procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Adhere to all safety, GMP, and food safety regulations.
    • Participate in equipment upgrades, plant expansions, and special projects as assigned.

    Skills Required:

    • Basic knowledge of mechanics and proper use of both power and hand tools.
    • Comfortable working in hot, cold, wet, and noisy environments.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work at heights or in confined spaces if needed.

    Skills Preferred:

    • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including belts, chains, gearboxes, bearings, and shafts.
    • Familiarity with welding, machining, and fabrication is a plus.
    • Understanding of food safety practices, HACCP, and sanitary design principles.
    • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

    Education/Experience:

    High school diploma or GED required, technical school or associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred.
