Food Safety Quality Assurance Coordinator
Location: San Diego, CA
Work Location Type: On-Site
Pay Range: $18.32 – $27.83 per hour
Employment Type: Full-Time
About Us
Our client is a long-established leader in airline catering and hospitality food services, delivering millions of high-quality meals each year to major airlines and retail partners across dozens of sites nationwide. Built on decades of culinary and operational excellence, the company is committed to food safety, consistency, and service at every level of its operation.
About the Role
We're looking for a detail-oriented Food Safety Quality Assurance Coordinator to support day-to-day quality assurance activities at our San Diego facility. This role plays a key part in maintaining our Global Quality System (GQS) and ensuring compliance with customer requirements, FDA and USDA regulations, HACCP programs, and internal food safety standards.
Reporting to the Food Quality Assurance Manager, you'll provide daily oversight of inspections, audits, environmental monitoring, documentation review, and employee training — helping drive food safety excellence and continuous improvement across the operation. Because our facility supports airline catering, production runs around the clock, so flexibility with scheduling (including weekends and holidays) is important.
What You'll Do
Maintain recordkeeping and key performance indicators related to Food Safety, Sanitation, and regulatory compliance (County Health, State Health Dept., FDA), as well as internal and airline customer requirements
Perform daily monitoring of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
Verify cooler and freezer temperature compliance
Conduct environmental swabs and microbiological sampling, and submit to a local lab for analysis
Pull Chef Table samples to verify compliance with specifications
Support the Quality Manager with training and daily initiatives addressing quality, food safety, and sanitation
Conduct workstation inspections (gold standard verification, specs, sanitizer, food temperatures, HACCP documentation, PHF set-up)
Conduct portion control weight checks and inspection checks (dispatch, galley, non-bonded, bonded, equipment)
Verify HACCP logs and related documentation are completed accurately each day
Create charts, trending reports, training materials, and visuals
Maintain and train employees on Regulated Garbage Standards to meet USDA requirements
Support jump-off (commissary) locations with oversight as needed
Train hourly employees and perform other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
High school diploma or equivalent
Comfortable using a computer, with basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint — additional systems and processes will be trained on the job
Prior experience isn't required, but any background in food production, cooking, or food-service environments is a plus — especially with exposure to CCPs (Critical Control Points) or HACCP
HACCP, PCQI, or USDA-related experience or certification is a strong plus
Ability to work in a cold environment (under 40°F)
Ability to lift/push a minimum of 25 lbs.
Strong math, analytical, verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, act as a liaison to the supervisor, and problem-solve
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with large groups
Flexibility to work weekends and holidays, given the 24/7 nature of the operation
Benefits
Competitive weekly pay
Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
Life Insurance
401(k)
Paid Time Off (eligibility based on company policy)
Company-provided uniforms
Annual safety shoe allowance
Complimentary employee meals during shifts
Equal Opportunity Employer of Women/Minorities/Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities.
