    POSITION/JOB SUMMARY:

    Manage the production of a meal (supervision of fellow employees) so that the meal is flavorful, attractive, therapeutically correct (follow doctors ordered diets), and served in a timely manner to residents, tenants, hospital patients, guests, and employees. General cleaning of Food Service areas, surfaces, dishes, equipment, etc. Assist in the stocking of kitchen supplies and food items.

    ** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

    • Arrive at work promptly and complete the job as assigned.

    • Plan your own daily work based on the menu of the day and that outlined in the daily work list.

    • Complete tasks per the given job schedule

    • Work with fellow employees to meet the objectives of the department.

    • Communicate both verbally and in writing with staff, residents, and visitors. Communicate with other departments in implementing the nutritional care of a resident.

    • Provide documentation such as required temperature records, meal records, filling out daily meal counts, cleaning records and daily task list.

    • Follow food production, sanitation, and safety guidelines to meet the requirements of regulating agencies and as specified in the Dietary Policy Manual.

    • Use cleaning chemicals per written guidelines.

    • Clean the kitchen, which includes cleaning the counters, steam tables, shelves, walls, equipment, putting food away, washing dishes, putting dishes away, sweep and mopping, and bringing garbage and recyclables to their designated locations.

    • Set up the kitchen, which includes filling the steam table and heated transport carts.

    • Manage the production of a meal (supervision of fellow employees) so that the meal is flavorful, attractive, therapeutically correct, and served in a timely manner.

    • Food preparation, making food, including getting food and cooking food.

    • Serve food, which includes setting the plates and steam table, dishing up the food, serving food at the hospital, assisted living and serving food at the nursing home.

    • Understand the proscribed doctors diet order to serve the appropriate meals to the patients.

    • Restock the kitchen, restocking the freezer and dry items, pulling foods needed for week’s menus

    • Work in an environment that may expose an individual to communicable disease.

    • Set up desserts, which include putting food in chafing dishes and setting the tables.

    • Serve meals at the Care Center, which includes serving residents, making coffee, making foods such as personal pizzas, sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, fried eggs, and similar types of foods.

    • Clean the dining rooms, which include clearing, washing and sanitizing the tables, chairs and the counter area completely.

    • Stock products, in cabinet, display, fridge, and fill the juice machine.

    • Lift Correctly.

    • Will attend 80% of departmental, quarterly and other required meetings

    • Help others succeed.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Supports and participates in common teamwork:
      • Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plan and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction including appropriate judgment.
      • Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
      • Follow up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers, patients, or residents regarding reported complaints, problems, and/or concerns.
      • Promotes positive public relations with patients, residents, family members and guests.
      • Completes requirements for in-service and annual training, acceptable attendance, uniform dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.

    ** QUALIFICATIONS**

    • High School Education, GED would be helpful but not required in most cases
    • Experience in food production and have the Food Safety Manager Training certificate from ServSafe or be willing to take the class.
    • Must possess leadership qualities.
    • Able to work productively and positively with other staff.
    • Must enjoy geriatrics and possess the ability to work well with other people.
    • Must have basic understanding of quality food production and therapeutic nutrition and sanitation standards.

    • Prolonged periods standing, reaching, and bending.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
