    Overview

    Run the Future offers identity-affirming, high impact entrepreneurial learning experiences, focused on BIPOC youth and young adults. We are seeking an experienced facilitator to deliver live instruction of an in-person Run the Future class this summer. Run the Future is a nonprofit social venture, developed through a partnership between Formation Ventures and Cambiar Education.

    Formation Ventures' mission is to accelerate emerging Black entrepreneurs as they explore, connect, launch, and grow their visions into wealth-building ventures. We do this through learning and exposure, incubation, and funding opportunities designed with and for Black 16-26 year olds. Our vision is that emerging Black entrepreneurs thrive within a supportive community that offers fun yet rigorous developmental experiences to help them grow their ventures. They have the resources and connections necessary to build their dreams and design a new future for themselves and their communities.

    Role Description

    The Run the Future team is hiring a part-time in-person instructor to deliver live instruction to support the success of an in-person Run the Future class this summer in Harlem, NY. As the lead facilitator, your contribution will be to facilitate class sessions with high school aged learners, in partnership with several near-peer mentors. Near-peer mentors are young adult mentors (typically college students for learners in high school) who work with learners in the course to support their learning and help develop social capital in a proximate and approachable way. The learning sessions you will facilitate will support emerging entrepreneurs in developing their identities, knowledge, and skill sets around entrepreneurship. You will report to Run the Future's Director of Program Delivery.

    Candidates must be available for an estimated 20 hours a week from July 10 through August 4, 2023, including in-person facilitation Monday-Thursday for approximately 3 hours a day within 8:30am to 4:00pm, on-site in Harlem, NY.


    Responsibilities

    • Facilitate live instruction of up to 30 learners on-site in Harlem with the following responsibilities:
      • Partner with Run the Future instructional team to plan sessions
      • Prepare for and participate in site-based prep and debrief touchpoints with site-based facilitation teams
      • Identify and share how you want each facilitation team member to provide support for sessions
      • Communicate with learners about their progress and answer questions through the partner's learning management system (LMS)
    • Identify and plan for effective student engagement and learning strategies, including:
      • Deliver session content in ways that feel authentically engaging to learners
      • Provide actionable, timely, and supportive feedback to students on pitch decks and presentations
      • Modify lesson plans to be most effective based on the needs of specific sites/classes/learners
    • Ensure high quality and accurate data capture and feedback loops to design team on learner participation, engagement, and pitch deck completion for each session
    • Consistently gather actionable feedback from learners and support rapid learning loops on instructional practice and materials in partnership with Run the Future design team
    • Support Run the Future instructional team to continuously improve instruction by modeling best practices, providing peer coaching, and proactively sharing suggestions for improvement

    This Job Might Be For You If You:

    • Have at least 5 years experience teaching or facilitating high school courses in an in-person or hybrid setting
    • Are passionate about entrepreneurship, and in particular about supporting BIPOC and youth entrepreneurs
    • Hold a deep belief in the genius of young people, and particularly in Black, Latina/o, and Indigenous learners and those with learning differences
    • Find joy in engaging, exciting, and energizing young adult learners
    • Create authentically engaging learning spaces that feel welcoming and supportive to all learners
    • Prioritize building supportive relationships with young people
    • Are highly self-motivated, organized, dependable, and proactive - you don't need anyone checking up on you
    • Care deeply about the details
    • Have exceptionally strong oral and written communication skills
    • Have a BA/BS degree

    • Are status conscious, hierarchy-driven, or resume/credential-focused
    • Struggle to give or receive feedback or engage in healthy dialogue
    • Don't want to work with young people in leadership roles

    Bonus Points:

    • 5+ years of experience working remotely with team members across different time zones
    • Fluent in Spanish
    • Proximate lived experience with our target audience(s) of learners
    • Meaningful personal experience as an entrepreneur

    Location

    • In-person in Harlem, NY

    Schedule

    • Training will be provided for an estimated 20 hours between June 19 - July 7, 2023, conducted virtually
    • In-person facilitation in Harlem from July 10 - August 4, 2023
    • Expected 20 hours per week, including prep and facilitation, once in-person facilitation begins

    Compensation

    • Compensated at $1000 for onboarding and $1000 per week of program facilitation, for a total of $5000.

    Technology Requirements

    Because instructor training will take place virtually, this role requires access to a personal computer with audio, video, and an internet connection speed that will support uninterrupted video conferencing via Zoom.
