Overview Formation is a product design and development group focused on human-centered design and new product innovation. We develop innovative new products and experiences for a broad range of clients in consumer, transportation, health-care and equipment markets. We are seeking a model-maker/prototyping specialist to support our industrial design and new product development team. We're interested in a collaborative maker interested in working within a dynamic development environment to support the transformation of early-stage insights into world-class mock-ups and proof of concept demonstrators. You should have capability across a range of model making skills including; including proficiency in CAD and tool pathing software, CNC machining, 3D printing and traditional shop/finishing equipment. Due to the hands-on nature of this role, this is an in-person position within Formation's Atlanta studio. Specific Qualifications + Requirements - Bachelor's degree in model making or equivalent and demonstrable professional prototyping experience. - A portfolio demonstrating relevant experience and completed models, prototypes and related builds. - Strong knowledge of contemporary prototyping techniques. - Proficiency in toolpathing and CAM capabilities - Knowledge of HAAS mill and Fusion 360 CAM a big plus. - Proficiency in a range of Contemporary CAD and prototyping software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Cura or other tool pathing and slicing software. - Previous experience with and the ability use 3D Solids CAD software to develop geometrically and dimensionally accurate parametric models is essential. - An intuitive sensitivity to craft, fit and finish. - Execute prototyping work in accordance with proposals, resource plans and client /project requirements. Maintain ownership and responsibility for the quality of Formation's services, quality of model deliverables and the successful delivery of client work. - Consider and convert feedback, balance and resolve multiple or conflicting, inputs to arrive at a final model. - Ability to partner with external prototypers and model shops, both domestic and international, to determine the best use of resources to achieve desired model-making results. - Interpret needs, goals, and directions from multiple stakeholders and integrate feedback appropriately.
