Summary of Duties

The employee performs protective work in securing church owned building and property, protecting equipment and material and controlling access to certain areas of the facilities. The incumbent works as part of a team to promote peace, harmony, organization, and crowd control during operation of programs, activities and services in the church and surrounding church owned properties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Patrols church property to check locks, alarms, fences, gates, or other barriers. Patrols church grounds to detect and report faulty fences and detection equipment, trespassing violations, and attempted thefts.

• Patrols building to detect and report theft or damages to church property, equipment, tools and supplies.

• Applies knowledge of the church’s security procedures, processes and rules governing building access and reporting physical security violations.

• Responsible for answering the front desk telephones in a professional manner. Relays messages, maintains logs and dispatches personnel and equipment to meet emergency situations.

• Reports the scene of an incident and relinquishes control to police or other law enforcement officials.

• Escorts violators of church policies and procedures from the property. In case of violation of the law (theft, vandalism, etc.) report and observe person(s) until authorities arrive.

• Responsible for the proper use, care and return of any equipment issued for the performance of security duties. Report malfunction to Security Supervisor.

• Greet and escort or direct visitors to their appropriate parties.

• Lock and unlock doors for church committees and ministries as appropriate.

• Inspect exterior doors and lights for proper operation. Report malfunction to the Security Supervisor.

• Patrol building and grounds hourly.

• Know and comply with fire evacuation procedures.

• Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus one year of security and safety experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in safety and training and/or licensed as a Security Officer or Law Enforcement Officer desired.

• Working knowledge of local laws investigation fire codes and life safety codes. May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays. Special Considerations:

• Must be able to walk and stand for short periods.

• May be required to patrol church property during cold and inclement weather.

• Incumbents may also be required to lift small items up to 50 pounds.

• Must submit to and pass a background check.
