    Fossil Distance Learning Program is a program within the Fossil Charter School in Fossil, Oregon. This charter school is the only school in the Fossil School District. The Fossil Distance Learning Program has been in existence for the last 11 years serving students in grades K-8. This program has provided diverse educational opportunities to students all across the State of Oregon.

    The distance learning program model is based on a hybrid distance education model wherein teachers conduct parent and student visits, __ virtual instruction_,_ monitor/evaluate student progress, guide and assist parents in their support of the students, and work with a collaborative team of teachers. Fossil Charter School contracts with Distance Learning Solutions, Inc. to administer and deliver the instructional and related services to students enrolled in the Fossil Distance Learning Program.

    For this position, Distance Learning Solutions, Inc. directors are looking for candidates. For this position, Distance Learning Solutions, Inc. directors are looking for a candidate who has an elementary K-8 multiple subjects, self-contained license and that lives in the state of Oregon. We are looking to fill a 2.0 FTE in this region. We would prefer candidates with experience with charter schools, online education, and homeschooling.

    Job Definition: Under the general supervision of the Distance Learning Solutions, Inc. Directors perform a variety of tasks with major responsibility being that of providing exceptional instructional related services for families and students participating in a virtual schooling program.

    Reports to: Program Directors of Distance Learning Solutions, Inc.

    Job Characteristics: Instructional related services shall include skill development, the expansion of knowledge and developing the ability to reason. Responsibilities include supervision, guidance, discipline, and safety of students. The use of independent judgement and decision making is required in many matters not having established rules, regulations, policies or precedent.

    Primary Functions:

    1. Identifies the needs of individual students by continuous assessment of their abilities

    2. Uses identified student needs to plan instructional services

    3. Prepares and writes instructional plans

    4. Uses a variety of curriculum and virtual tools to implement instructional plans

    5. Organizes and manages student activities

    6. Applies learning theories to meet the needs of students

    7. Evaluates and reports student progress

    8. Initiates, plans, and carries out regular and required parent/student meetings via technology platforms

    9. Initiates and maintains communication with parents and colleagues

    10. Face to face meetings with assigned students providing instruction in core subject areas

    11. Face to face reports through student management system

    12. Answer daily email and phone calls from assigned students and parents/guardians

    13. Deal with student concerns and issues presented in meetings or other communication

    14. Reply to emails that show student learning plan/portfolio submission with feedback

    15. Score Student work, Performance Tasks, and provide preparation for Smarter Balanced Assessments

    16. Maintain student files with completed work and assessment results

    17. Perform required assessments for all assigned students

    18. Refer students as needed to Special Services Team and provide interventions using the Response to Intervention Plan

    19. Attend all staff meetings

    20. Attend required meetings with supervising directors

    21. Attend monthly meetings session with Special Education Director

    22. Host weekly virtual classes

    23. Manage coarse content in student learning management system

    24. Maintain website/virtual communications with families

    25. Host weekly office Hours in regional areas

    26. Maintain daily reports for attendance

    27. Maintain daily reports for communication record

    28. Maintain daily time cards and/or contact logs

    29. Submit monthly documentation of mileage and appointments

    30. Facilitate and record grades for report card process and credit tracking

    Other Functions:

    1. Participates in in-service and professional development activities

    2. Assists in the assessment of program students and the planning required to meet those needs

    3. Attends meetings and serves on committees as assigned or directed (or if individual volunteers)

    4. Sets and carries out goals each year

    5. Contributes to the continuous innovation that is required of a unique distance learning program

    6. Operate office machines, including computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machines

    7. Assists in accounting process of organization purchasing

    8. Use a variety of computer software including MS Excel

    9. Fulfills other duties as assumed or as assigned by supervisor

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education/Licensure/Certification:

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Current State of Oregon Teaching License
    • Endorsements as required by Oregon Department of Education with the appropriate endorsement in areas of assignment. Educational Specialists must have obtained the TSPC Elementary-Multiple Subjects or its equivalent license endorsement

    Experience:

    • One year successful teaching experience within subject area OR successful completion of an Oregon instructional internship program
    • Three years’ experience, preferred

    Other minimum qualifications:

    • Must have a dedicated work space free from distractions
    • Operational knowledge of the Internet and Web-related technologies
    • Must also be able to pass a background check
    • Obtain first Aid certification

    Additional Experience:

    Demonstrated competency through college preparation, student teaching, and/or classroom experience, and professional development.
