    Job Description

    The Vice President (VP) of Safety has the overall responsibility for the Foster Farms safety program for all sites and projects throughout the Company. This role is a strategic partner with Executive and Operational leadership and will understand their businesses, challenges, and opportunities. They will collaboratively develop all activities to manage and improve safety and regulatory compliance. This role will lead a team of safety professionals who provide both front-line and regional consultation and support. They will work closely with the broader risk management organization. This position requires a desire to understand the needs of TEAM members, customers, and the community. During difficult situations, the VP will maintain a positive, safety and service-focused mindset.

    The VP of Safety will be expected to maintain proficiency and stay current on all trends and regulatory issues related to the area of safety through participation in professional conferences and organizations, reading technical and professional publications and maintaining personal networks.

    Essential Job Functions:

    · Strategically lead the Company’s Safety & Compliance programs through a behavioral based safety mindset. Promote a positive safety culture which recognizes and rewards safe behaviors and safe work practices while providing coaching and feedback for unsafe behaviors.

    · Serve as a key member of the leadership team and collaborate closely with operational and functional leadership regarding behavioral safety and organizational policies and practices

    · Champion the safety-based training programs across the Company to drive positive performance and create a culture of safety in support of the Company’s Purpose, Vision, and Values

    • Direct programs in a multi-state operation that ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies
    • Ensures Federal/State compliance.
    • Represents Foster Farms with government agencies regarding compliance policies.
    • Oversee compliance in safety standards and monitors the standards through audits and evaluations
    • Ensure safety goals are actively pursued, monitored, and reported out monthly
    • Research, recommend, develop, and implement safety awareness, education and incentive programs
    • Build and manage a diverse team while creating a culture that motivates people who can work in a team-based, participative, and results-oriented environment
    • Provides analyses of the effectiveness of safety initiatives through assessments and compiling and interpreting data to identify gaps
    • Develops and implements action plans as necessary to mitigate risks
    • Educate and oversee the competency of managers in safety management practices, protocols, and procedures, mentoring and accountability
    • Ensures the Company follows the Department of Transportation (DOT) and other federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
    • Directs and oversees training and assessment for Company's Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • Develop and manage department forecasts and budgets
    • Create and measure KPIs to ensure goals are being met; implement countermeasures to improve performance
    • Benchmark and drive consistent policies across business units
    • Review pending and upcoming changes to Federal & State DOT Trucking regulations to ensure the company is prepared for future compliance requirements
    • Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local fleet and safety regulatory requirements (DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in Occupational Health and Safety, Transportation Risk Management, Business Administration, or related field
    • 10-15+ years of safety and leadership experience within a safety operation
    • Experience in leading Transportation-Fleet Safety
    • 10+ years of experience in leading, building, developing, and managing collaborative teams
    • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable federal/state regulations and DOT regulations
    • Ability to perform in a demanding, deadline-driven environment with rapidly changing priorities
    • Conceptual management and problem-solving skills
    • Strong Computer application skills including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft applications
    • Knowledge and experience with safety and transportation systems and technology
    • Excellent executive presence with strong leadership, collaboration, analytical, influential, interpersonal, and organizational skills
    • Must be a strategic thinker who is results-oriented with the ability to drive continuous improvement within the Safety organization as well as the overall organization
    • Demonstrated results in establishing strategic goals and metrics for measuring success.
    • Comfort with time reporting systems
    • Excellent verbal communication with the ability to speak with others within and outside of Foster Farms
    • Safety Certifications such as the World Safety Organization (WSO-CSE, WSO-CSSD) National Safety Council (ASC), North American Transportation Management Institute (CDS), and/or Transportation Safety Institute (TSSP), etc._ Demonstrated proficiency in building relationships and working collaboratively with leaders, TEAM members,_ and other stakeholders to improve operational, performance and customer experience.
    • Must be able to travel
