    Job Description

    PURPOSE OF POSITION:   -Manage all aspects of the Fresno Live haul Operations.  The position manages poultry “catching and delivery” of live product to the Belgravia and Cherry Facilities.  The position also supplies live and outside sales.  The Live haul Manager will direct a team of clerical, schedulers, management and catchers to ensure that live poultry is delivered on time, in excellent condition and by following all applicable laws/regulations.  The position will also be responsible for animal welfare programs and associated compliance.  The team will be responsible for catching in a multitude of geographical locations, including Northern and Southern ranches.             

    DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES:   Manage all aspects of the chicken live haul business.  This includes obtaining the lowest possible hauling costs with the highest possible quality, while protecting company assets and maintaining good employee relations.  This position manages chicken pick up at Southern ranches, and sometimes-Northern ranches, including organic and hauling to the processing facility. Manager must schedule equipment and work force to ensure processing facility has scheduled birds.  Recruitment of employees and disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employees. Must have approval of higher authority for additions to staff, terminations of exempt employees, and for change of policies or procedures or equipment replacement.

    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Internally: Belgravia and Cherry Supervisors and Managers, Live haul Office Clerks, Truck Shop, Grow-Out Manager, Field Supervisors, Vehicle Safety, Human Resources, Risk Management, Environmental Affairs

    Externally: Outside Labor Contracting Companies, Union Representatives, Outside Equipment Vendor and Maintenance Vendor Companies, Various Regulatory Companies, DOT, CA Highway Patrol and other officers.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:                                                                               

    Manage the pickup and transportation of fryers, which includes:

    Scheduling the daily pickup

    Routing along with Bio-Security Assuring

    All Equipment is Clean. 

    Coordinating shipping schedules with supervisors and plants.

    Correcting problems between Live haul and other departments.

    Manage cost, production levels, physical assets and employees:                                       

    Manage in a manner to obtain budgeted cost.

    Oversee repair costs for Truck Shop                                          

    Eliminate equipment that is unnecessary in meeting our objectives.                      

    Maintain building, grounds and equipment to be always in top condition,safety and appearance.

    Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.

    Employee Relations:

    Develop and train hourly and exempt employees to prepare them to  achieve the company and divisional objectives and preparation for promotion.

    Hire, discipline and terminate exempt and non-exempt personnel.

    Develop Safety Programs to ensure a safe working environment

    Safety, production, and quality standards

    Work with office staff to ensure that all records and reports are timely and accurate. 

    Attend meetings and training sessions.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    1. Must have a minimum five years of managerial/supervisory experience.
    2. Preferred knowledge of poultry transportation.
    3. Must have excellent written/verbal communication skills.
    4. Must be able to demonstrate ability to make decisions while under pressure.
    5. Must be able to manage a budget.
    6. B.A./B.S. preferred or equivalent work experience.
    7. Must have demonstrated knowledge of DOT Law.
    8. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
    9. Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
    10. Must be able to work days and nights and be available for calls 24/7.
