Job Description
The Leave and Disability Program Manager is responsible for Leave of Absence, ADA, and disability programs. Provides guidance and support for absence and disability program strategies critical to the organization's success. This position will liaise with our third-party leave administration vendor, human resources, supervisors, managers, and the Benefits department, with a focus on timely resolution of leave and ADA issues. This position will manage the process to ensure compliance with state/federal leave laws in coordination with related corporate benefits and leave policies. The manager is a subject matter expert in all leave of absence programs, including Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), ADA, state and local leave laws, short-term and long-term disability plans, and company-sponsored leave plans.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
Manage Leave of absence and disability claims having oversight of TPA/system and insurance companies to assure compliance with its policies and procedures.
Ensure TPA/system compliance with best leave of absence practices, manages leave of absences diligently and ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws.
Ensure TPA/system compliance with contract, service level agreements and manage spending on services to ensure appropriateness.
Will serve as an advocate for employees on leave of absence while ensuring leave of absences are handled professionally and timely.
Work with TPA/system, local HR leaders and operations management to establish effective communications regarding employees return to work status and expected duration of leave.
Partners with field HR; researches and proposes next steps for complex leave types.
Maintain an advanced knowledge of FMLA, FML (state leave laws), Short Term Disability (STD) plans, PFL, ADA, other leave laws as required, acting as the subject matter expert for the department. Ensures compliance with state and federal leave of absence laws, as well as client policies.
Working with the TPA to ensure development and updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for legal compliance, internal documentation, efficiencies, quality, continuous improvement, and customer service.
Oversees and deploys system enhancements and updates within the TPA/system.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years’ management level experience in Leave and Disability.
5-7 years working with TPA or with leave of absences and disability program platforms.
3 years minimum managing leave of absences and disability cases in a high volume, fast paced manufacturing environment preferred.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage technology projects.
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
Experience with handling multiple concurrent projects, keeping information organized, and learning “as you go” to keep up with the dynamic work environment.
Clear and effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills; able to adapt both for varied audiences. High attention to detail.
Ability to manage a wide range of relationships with a variety of business partners.
Working knowledge of absence policies and leaves administration.
Deep understanding of leave types, policies, processes, employment laws and regulations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
