    About Recess

    At Recess, we're reimagining how families discover and book enrichment classes, after-school care, and camps for their children. Recess' search platform is currently live, with full booking capabilities set to launch this summer in Austin, followed by national expansion.

    Recess is now hiring for a full-time, Lead Full Stack Software Engineer.

    What You'll Do

    As the Lead Full Stack Engineer at Recess, you'll be a core part of a small, fast-moving team building the foundation of our platform. You'll help shape the product, architecture, and user experience from early stages and have a big impact on the lives of real families. You'll:

    • Design and implement new features across the stack
    • Architect scalable and secure AWS infrastructure for deployment, data, and APIs
    • Collaborate closely with design and product to craft delightful, accessible UI/UX
    • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code with attention to performance
    • Participate in code reviews, tech planning, and roadmap discussions
    • Help define engineering best practices as we scale

    What We're Looking For

    • 5–7+ years experience in software engineering with full stack exposure
    • Comfortable with Next.js (React), Go, Python, TypeScript
    • Comfortable building and deploying on AWS services
    • Proficient in writing clean, scalable APIs and frontend components
    • Strong understanding of modern web application architecture and dev tools
    • Self-starter mindset — comfortable with ambiguity and ownership
    • Passion for building intuitive, user-first products
    • Bonus: experience with booking tech, personalization, or working on early-stage teams
    • Austin-area candidates preferred, but we are open to Remote working Central Time (CT) hours with travel in to Austin as needed
