  • Responsibilities

    SUMMARY Counsel students on career goals and job searches. Track, maintain, analyze and organize alumni statistics, including graduation rates, employment rates, salaries, and other pertinent information. Develop and execute other projects as needed for the Career Resource Center, such as Judicial Clerkship and internship programs, maintaining internal web-page and updating student facing LinkedIn page. Participate in outreach to the local, regional, and national legal community to develop awareness of the College and to develop a deeper understanding of specific practice areas.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Provide support in all aspects of the office.

    Counsel students regarding career goals and job searches in all facets of the practice of law, as well as non-legal or non-traditional areas in which students might utilize their backgrounds and law degrees.

    Counsel students regarding participation, policies and procedures in all recruiting and networking events in which the College participates.

    Counsel students on professionalism, interviewing and networking skills.

    Represent the Career Resource Center on the College's and professional associations' committees and present programs at professional meetings and conferences.

    Assist in the development and implementation of career planning and placement programs, activities and materials.

    Gather, maintain and verify statistical data, including contacting recent graduates to verify employment status and compiling data for submission to organizations to which the College reports employment data.

    Provide one-on-one counseling for Judicial Clerkships, assisting in perfecting applications, intelligently choosing judges and understanding deadlines and procedures.

    Assist in planning workshop and panel presentations, including arranging speakers, creating flyers and posters, and managing sign-ups and room reservations.

    Maintain content and supply of handouts and other materials and the Career Resource Library; assist students and alumni in using the Career Resource Library.

    Complies with all aspects of the law school’s Customer Service Standards.

    · Proficiency in Windows-based software, word processing, desktop publishing and database skills (Microsoft applications such as Word, Access, and PowerPoint preferred);

    · Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment with multiple interruptions;

    · Self-starter with ability to prioritize and organize.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's degree and JD required. A minimum of three to five years of professional experience in related field.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Possess good oral and written communication skills with ability to accurately proofread all outgoing material. Ability to respond professionally to inquiries or complaints from students and members of the legal or business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to present information effectively to various constituents such as students, alumni, employers, and other groups.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve routine problems and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations, especially when other Career Resource Center members may be out of the office or unavailable. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in order to accurately input data and proofread, and distance vision in order to recognize and assist visitors to the Center.

    Fast paced, multi-tasking, non-smoking work environment. Must be able to work the general business schedule of the College (9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) plus occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.
