  • Responsibilities

    Framatome is seeking a Materials Engineer for our Old Forest Road office in Lynchburg, Virginia.

     

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Provide materials engineering expertise to a variety of research and development and manufacturing projects.
    • Participate in materials design for nuclear reactor fuel.
    • Advise and redact reports on metallurgy aspects, mechanical and materials properties.
    • Plan mechanical engineering tests and perform quality control analyses.
    • Participate in global R&D programs for new material development.
    • Plan and implement R&D program for novel fuel designs and materials.
    • Act as engineering lead for licensing activities of new materials.
    • Develop materials specifications for nuclear fuel components.
    • Provide materials expertise for development programs and for direct manufacturing support.
    • Interface with utilities, EPRI, and other entities (internal and external) regarding material testing and development programs.
    • Evaluate post-irradiation data with respect to material performance.
    • Assist in the preparation of material models for code development activities.
    • Support re-load analysis work by preparing and reviewing engineering documents.
    • Support research efforts aimed at improving current materials as well as developing new alloys.
    • Maintain and revise material product specifications and qualification reports.

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

    ALL CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY:

    Master’s degree in Materials Science, Material Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or related field.

    Experience must include:

      1. Data Analysis – application of experimental results to design
      1. Metallurgy
      1. Design of material characterization experiments
      1. Technical Writing
      1. Characterization of complex alloys and materials
      1. Writing proposals for government funded research activities
      1. Paper publication and presenting research at public conferences
      1. Microscopy techniques to support R&D activities (SEM, EBSD, FIB).

    Skills can be gained through academic coursework and/or work experience.
