  • Responsibilities

    SUMMARY Counsel students on career goals and job searches. Develop Educational and skill building programming, including table talks, panel discussions and information sessions.  Communicate and collaborate with legal professionals and local organizations to participate in different programs to give guidance to students in advancing their legal careers. Participate in outreach to the local, regional, and national legal community to develop awareness of the School and to develop a deeper understanding of specific practice areas.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

     

    Counsel students regarding career goals and job searches in all facets of the practice of law as well as non-legal or non-traditional areas in which students might utilize their backgrounds and law degrees.

     

    Counsel students regarding participation, policies and procedures in all recruiting events and programs in which the College participates.

     

    Counsel students on career goals, job search strategies, and interview and networking skills.

     

    Help facilitate the law school's on-campus interview programs. Facilitate programs related to on-campus interviews such as mock interview programs and workshops.

     

    Prepares and distributes all information related to the Career Resource Center including instructions, charts, resource materials and schedules; handles cancellations and rescheduling of interviews, programs and other activities.

     

    Responsible for maintaining Simplicity, the web-enhanced recruiting site for law student s and legal professionals, and the website for Career Resources Center.

     

    Assists in the development and implementation of career planning and professional development programs, activities, and materials.

     

    Provides support to the Department in targeting legal and non-legal employers for potential employment opportunities for all law students.

     

    Provides support in all aspects of the office including answering phones, faxing and servicing walk-in customers as needed.

     

    Maintain social media connections for students and facilitating student programs through legal research and writing classes, to introduce students to the office and programs.

     

    Complies with all aspects of the law school’s Customer Service Standards.

     

    Other duties as assigned.

    • Service oriented with the ability to make all customers feel welcome;
    • Proficiency in Windows-based software, word processing, desktop publishing and database skills (Microsoft applications such as Word, Access, and PowerPoint preferred);
    • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment with multiple interruptions;
    • Self-starter with ability to prioritize and organize.

     

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    JD required. Graduate of an accredited law school. 2 - 4 years experience that can include a combination of law practice and career development experience highly preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant experience may be substituted.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Possess good oral and written communication skills with the ability to accurately proofread all outgoing material.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Basic math skills

     

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve routine problems and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations, especially when other Career Resource members may be out of the office or unavailable. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
