    Framatome is seeking a CMC Lab Specialist Intern for our Mount Athos Road office in Lynchburg, Virginia. Performs routine laboratory tasks/research under supervision of another lab specialist or chemist. Relies on instructions and established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. May be required to work with and around radioactive and/or corrosive chemicals and must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment as required.

     

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Receives samples and inputs information and test requests into system database.
    • Performs routine physical/mechanical, chemical and/or radiographic analysis on materials, products, components, etc., using various laboratory equipment and instruments and performs quality checks.
    • Prepares and analyzes samples utilizing established laboratory practices and documented procedures.
    • Maintains, performs routine calibrations and operates laboratory equipment. May assist with troubleshooting.
    • Keeps lab equipment, supplies and work areas clean and organized.
    • Disposes of samples and waste in adherence with strict safety procedures.
    • Prioritizes samples, plans work sequence, and communicates status and results to chemist, manager and customers.
    • Plays an active role in creating a safe and healthy workplace and complies with all applicable safety and health rules and regulations.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    ALL CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY:

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with at least four semester completed by start of internship/co-op

    • Strong technical problem-solving abilities
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills

     

     

    THE FOLLOWING MAY BE USED TO DIFFERENTIATE CANDIDATES WHO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION:

    • Previous internship/co-op experience in field of study
    • Previous internship/co-op experience in nuclear field
    • General working knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment
    • Experience with data reporting, control charts, statistical analysis techniques
    • Knowledge of basic computer operations including spreadsheets, word processing, and email
    • Familiar with company safety and health policies and programs.
