    Job Description

    THIS IS A PRN POSITION

    MUST WORK 2 SHIFTS PER MONTH, 1 SHIFT MUST BE A 8 HRS. WEEK-END , 1 SUMMER HOLIDAY AND 1 WINTER HOLIDAY - EXTRA SHIFTS WHEN AVAILABLE (REFER TO PRN GUIDELINES)

    The Certified Nurse Assistant provides service to individuals in their own homes, who need assistance caring for themselves as a result of old age, sickness, or disability. Personal care may include assistance with the activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living, companionship, transportation, and or caregiver respite. 

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assistance  with the activities of daily living, including:

      • -  bathing                      -  shaving                 -  ambulation

      • -  mouth care               -  dressing                -  exercise

      • -  hair care                   -  feeding                  -  toileting

      • -  nail care                   -  positioning             -  medication reminding

      • -  skin care                  -  transferring            -  vital signs and blood pressure

    • Assistance with instrumental activities of daily living includes:

        • food preparation        - housekeeping           - laundry
        • use the telephone     - handle money           - shopping
        • transportation            - take medications
    • Provide companionship including social interactions, conversations, emotional reassurance and encouragement of activities that stimulate the mind;

    • Perform/assist with essential shopping errands;

    • Assist clients/patients with following written, special diet plan;

    • Escort clients to medical facilities, errands, shopping and outings as specified in the care plan;

    • Ensure client’s safety and security in the home or on outings;

    • Provide respite care for caregivers in accordance with care plans;

    • Follow the written care plan;

    • Report changes in the patient’s physical and/or cognitive status, and/or changes in the patient’s environment to the nursing supervisor;

    • Complete flow sheets and time sheets during each service visit, and submit flow sheets and time sheets to the office in accordance with Friends Circle policies and procedures and

    • Participate in team meetings by providing input and making suggestions.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

     

    • High School diploma or GED required;

    • Complete a CNA training program that meets the requirements established by the State of Maryland Board of Nursing;

    • Be certified as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) from the State of Maryland Board of Nursing;

    • Have current CPR certification;

    • Home care experience preferred;

    • Must have a valid driver’s license;

    • Basic computer skills required;

    • Must have the ability to lift 20 pounds repeatedly during the shift and to move light furniture;

    • Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, bend, twist, stoop, kneel and stretch throughout the shift;

    • Must have the ability to stand on a tall ladder to complete housekeeping tasks;

    • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all resident care information and assure resident’s rights and privacy is protected at all times;

    • Must positively interact with residents, co-workers and visitors and display a professional and friendly demeanor;

    • Must maintain a professional, neat and clean appearance;

    • Must be able to work in all types of weather extremes;

    • Must have the ability to accurately plan work routine and complete assigned duties;

    • Must be able to work in an environment that includes pets;

    • Attend Friends Circle orientation, as required;

    • Attend Friends Circle In-Service Training, as required;
