We seek to enhance the Friends of the Children model with Indigenous culture as a protective factor in our tribal serving and culturally specific sites. As the Tribal Program Coordinator, you will work closely with our Tribal Program Team to provide the support needed to achieve our ambitious scaling plan to serve as many children across Indian Country as possible.

    The Tribal Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating diversified functions and activities for our Tribal Program Team. This position will support cultivating and maintaining relationships between Friends of the Children and Sovereign Tribal Nations by ensuring effective development and implementation of tribal specific tools, resources, and best practices. This position organizes and anticipates the needs of the Tribal Program team as well as Indigenous the needs of Indigenous serving chapters and takes the initiative to support and seek out solutions. The Tribal Program Coordinator understands, supports, promotes and clearly articulates Friends of the Children’s mission, vision, values, and principles in daily interactions with internal and external customers.

    **** ** Essential Functions and Responsibilities:**

    • Serve as an internal subject matter expert on tribal histories, treaties, sovereignty, self- governance, protocols, customs and traditions, and Indigenous cultural resources for Friends of the Children.
    • Develop topics for and facilitate Buffalo Circle working group.
    • Lead Quality Improvement efforts on behalf of Tribal Programs.
    • Approve and develop tribal specific marketing/outreach materials.
    • Attend Internal and External meetings on behalf of Chief Officer of Advancement and Tribal Relations (ie Native Americans in Philanthropy Program Group, Indigenous specific webinars and conferences, Internal work groups).
    • Prospect Indigenous specific funding opportunities for National and Indigenous serving chapters.
    • Create and maintain relationships with other national Indigenous serving organizations.
    • Support and contribute to development of Indigenous specific trainings to support National, National Board, and chapters throughout the Friends of the Children Network.
    • Research and contribute to funding opportunities for national and Indigenous serving chapters.
    • Create and maintain relationships with other national Indigenous serving organizations.
    • Gather and compile data specific to chapters that fall within the scope of Tribal Programs.
    • Liaison between National Programs team and Tribal Programs.
    • Coordinate flow of information between Tribal Programs and all other national teams (ie Expansion, HR, Finance).
    • Create and maintain relationships with Indigenous partner organizations.
    • Facilitate communication and cultivate relationships by acting as a liaison with chapters, volunteers, staff and others to ensure effective communication and relationships with all constituencies.
    • Organization and support of in-person/virtual Convenings such as Opportunity for Friends or Program Director Summit.
    • Manage Travel for Tribal Programs team.
    • Support the entering of expenses for Chief Officer of Advancement and Tribal Relations resources to support Tribal expansion work.
    • Coordinate and organize meetings for Tribal Programs team.
    • Maintain and coordinate calendars for Tribal Programs team.
    • Collaborate with Chief Officer of Advancement and Tribal Relations and consultants to create documents, tools, and resources to support Tribal expansion work.
    • Attend and co-present at events that enhance and move forward Indigenous body of work for Friends of the Children.
    • Provide training and technical assistance to Indigenous serving chapters.
    • Complete other projects and tasks as assigned.

    **** ** E** ** ssential Skills and Abilities:**

    • Minimum 3-5 years of experience working with sovereign tribal nations.
    • Knowledge of tribal, state and federal Indian law and policy.
    • Knowledge of Indigenous historic and cultural resources.
    • Self motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment under minimal supervision.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
    • Ability to advise on and support relationship building with tribal nations.
    • Ability to coordinate closely with a broad range of internal and external team members, agency departments, Tribal governments, staff stakeholders to efficiently advance the mission.
    • Strong cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to identify problems, take a solution-oriented approach and put into action creative solutions for success;
    • Competency and skills in the basic principles of project management including project development, planning and monitoring;
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills. This position builds relationships in-person, on the phone, and via video conferencing with diverse individuals inside and outside the organization.
    • Must possess a high level of organization, attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
    • Pro-actively prioritize, coordinate, and plan work activities; Use time efficiently; meet deadlines.
    • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; Use reason even when dealing with emotional topics.

    ** Required Education, Experience, and Abilities:**

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Three years’ experience working with Sovereign Tribal Nations or programs supporting Indigenous communities in support or leadership position(s), including programmatic or executive level support experience.

    Preferred Experience and Abilities:

    • Desktop publishing and design experience.
    • Experience with federal funding streams.
    • Significant experience and expertise in Indigenous cultural specifically tribal histories, treaties, sovereignty, self-governance, protocols, customs and traditions, and Indigenous cultural resources.
