    No job is too big or small in this versatile CF&O. role where you’ll combine your strengths in management and expertise in finance to help this multifaceted organization find continued success and growth. In this critical role you will: 

     

    • As the CFO, the candidate will be responsible for developing, monitoring and evaluating overall corporate strategy with the Executive Director and leaders of business with emphasis on bottom line performance, working capital, and enhancing stakeholder value.  

    • As the COO, this candidate provides the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that the company has the proper operational controls, processes, and procedures in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency. 

    • Accountable to the entire leadership team, the CF&O Officer ensures a culture of performance excellence, equity and inclusion where all employees flourish in support of the mission and exemplify our core values. 

    • Be a strong manager who can partner with executive leadership, while influencing and promoting communication and collaboration across departments.  

    • The point person for any financial questions from executive leadership and you’ll participate in all aspects of the business including planning and assessing new projects, nurturing financial partners, and growing highly functional teams.

    CFO Essential Functions:  

    • Support the execution of internal operational goals to ensure the annual objectives are achieved; works with the Executive Director to develop and implement financial programs to meet strategic goals 

    • Partner with executive leadership and apply broad knowledge of other key functions as they intersect with finance, including human resources, program operations, development, and administration to foster cross functional teams.  

    • Administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; keeping the senior leadership team, committees, and the Boards of the Portland Chapter and the Foundation abreast of the organization's financial status 

    • Direct the finance group in providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial information in order to make informed financial decisions  

    • Continuously improve internal controls and efficiencies to protect organizational assets 

    • Works with Executive Director and Chief Development Director on strategic financial goals in marketing and communications to build on the organization’s reputation and donor base  

    • Foster an organizational culture of learning, performance excellence and equity through in house trainings, career pathways and professional development for all staff through strategic financial planning 

    • Work with Program, Development, and Administrative departments on finance-related projects that add additional value and efficiency to the organization

     

     

    COO Essential Functions:  

    • Demonstrates strong leadership skills; able to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers; excellent management techniques in a collaborative, inclusive team environment  

    • Support and convey Friends of the Children’s mission and values in financial and non-financial communication 

    • Supervise, develop and lead accounting, human resources, and facilities staff to maintain a high performing team 

    • Act as a strategic thought leader providing internal consulting to department management in organizational development, performance evaluation, and compensation.   

    • Set standard operating procedures and performance measures for Facilities functional areas including maintenance of four properties, vehicles, vendor management and safeguarding of assets. 

    • Oversee capital projects to maintain and improve facilities 

    • Ensure adequacy of staff, processes, and policies and procedure in maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations and providing service to the organization  

    • Create policies and procedures in the areas of IT infrastructure, security, data storage, equipment procurement, and set up

      

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:   

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related area (advanced degree or CPA preferred) 

    • Five to seven years of finance leadership experience

      

     

    PREFERRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE: 

    • CMA or MBA preferred 

    • Five to seven years of finance leadership experience 

    • Two or more years managing HR, facilities, and IT functions 

    • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles for non-profits

    • Proficiency using cloud-based collaborative document sharing and editing 

    • Exceptional communication and people skills for dealing with a wide range of stakeholders 

    • Exceptional MS Office skills, particularly advanced skills and utilization of Excel for problem solving 

    • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge or similar accounting software package 

    • Excellent management skills; able to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers; demonstrates leadership in a collaborative, inclusive team environment  

    • Strong written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills, including the ability to interface with staff, board of directors, and community partners
