    Friends of the Children – Tacoma is currently seeking an extraordinary professional to embark on a new career journey as a Development Coordinator. The Development Coordinator is responsible for carrying out Friends of the Children - Tacoma's fundraising strategies through annual fund campaigns and special events. The ideal candidate can research, assist in the design and implementation of and sustain traditional and creative fundraising strategies and programs to advance the organization’s profile in the community, and maximize resource development efforts. 

    This role ensures that all Development activities are consistent with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.  This position works closely with the Executive Director and a Development Consultant to meet annual revenue goals.  The Development Coordinator is a member of the Friends of the Children – Tacoma leadership team. 

    The candidate must have strong experience with maintaining a fund development database and systems, fundraising event planning as well as exceptional written and verbal communication.  WE ARE BUILDING OUR CONNECTIONS WITHIN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY AND RECENT FUNDRAISING EXPERIENCE IN PIERCE COUNTY AND WASHINGTON STATE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION. This position is 20 hours/week with the potential for growth to a full-time position within our chapter. As a key member of the executive team, this position reports to the Executive Director (ED) and Development Consultant and may be asked to lead special projects.

    The Development Coordinator is responsible for implementing plans and monitoring systems to ensure goals are met.  The position is accountable for meeting all project deadlines, event timelines, and prospect generation goals. The following is a sample breakdown of the duties and roles expected and is not intended as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties. 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES INDIVIDUAL GIVING & DATA MANAGEMENT (50%)

    • Actively participate in both the long and short-term development planning process
    • Support the executive management with coordinating corporate, foundation, and individual grants administration, including tracking pledge timelines and complying with giving guidelines
    • Support the strategy to engage donor support through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities to encourage donor retention
    • Connect donors to the impact of their gift, primarily through written communication
    • Support prospect research and create donor profiles
    • Support engagement and stewardship activities including organizing site visits, meetings, and events
    • Work in collaboration with team to ensure donor benefits are delivered
    • Reconcile revenue and financial records weekly and monthly with the Operations Manager
    • Manage timely gift acknowledgment process for corporate, individual, events, and in-kind contributions with the Operations Manager
    • Maintain systems and tools used to track donor and prospect information for executive management and board reports (internal and external tools)
    • Responsible for the ongoing accuracy, maintenance, and functionality of the eTapestry donor database including database improvements and clean-up
    • Manage online giving programs, including Blackbaud and other peer-to-peer fundraising sites

    SPECIAL EVENTS (45%)

    • Manage logistics for fundraising and cultivation events throughout the year, including Friends of the Children - Tacoma's annual signature fundraising event, the ABoard events, and several other cultivation and fundraising activities
    • Event responsibilities include:
      • Managing timelines, workplans and guest lists

      • Maximizing collaboration with staff and board

      • Work with leadership to ensure sponsor and donor outreach is happening promptly

      • Printing and mailing invitations and other materials

      • Ensure all sponsor and donor benefits are being delivered

    COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING (5%)

    • Contribute to the development and implementation of organization-wide marketing materials designed to increase public awareness and raise visibility
    • Maintain accurate mailing lists and design segmented strategy for donor communications
    • Assist the Operations Manager as needed with donor communications, such as e-newsletters, social media, and annual report

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

    • BA/BS and 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in fundraising and/or development, including special events, major gifts, and/or individual giving
    • Familiarity with Pierce County/Washington State philanthropic, governmental, and business communities
    • Understanding of the population of youth served by Friends of the Children, and the mission of our Program; experience with youth organization(s) preferred
    • Have a passion for serving youth facing the most challenging situations
    • Demonstrated ability to articulate Friends of the Children mission and make a persuasive case for support
    • Ability to represent the organization professionally and effectively at community events/ meetings
    • Ability to cultivate and sustain relationships and work effectively with a diverse constituency, including staff, children and families, current and potential donors, board members, and community partners
    • Commitment to building donor-centered relationships
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, eTapestry (or another donor database)
    • Proven ability to solve problems, work in a team environment, and meet deadlines and budgets
    • Entrepreneurial spirit and appreciation for working cross-functionally within a small team
    • Demonstrate ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
    • Strong program management skills, and the ability to anticipate problems and focus on details
    • Understanding of the effective use of data to identify trends, segment donors, and tailor donor communications
    • Ability to function efficiently with frequent interruptions, work well under pressure, anticipate and prevent problems, and adapt to changing circumstances

    • Serve as a catalyst for the growth and continuous development of the Friends – Tacoma chapter
    • Must hold a valid driver's license and have access to a car
    • Availability to work occasionally on evenings or weekends as needed for events
    • Contribute toward a positive, inclusive work environment, and participate actively in staff meetings and events, as required
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

    SALARY AND OTHER DETAILS

    Friends of the Children – Tacoma is offering a part-time position at $30,000 per year.  Promotion to full-time exempt status and the enrollment in the Friends – Tacoma benefits package is dependent on the mutually successful meeting of development goals and work as determined by the Executive Director and Development Consultant. 

    We are currently working remotely due to Covid-19 with the expectation that we will return to our office in early 2021.  While working remotely is necessary at this time, we will require the ideal candidate to be local in 2021.  Having an adequate internet connection is a requirement to maintain communication with the ED and the team.
