The Finance team performs the accounting functions for the National Friends of the Children organization and chapters throughout the country. The Staff Accountant supports developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.  The position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including reconciling and recording monthly transactions for both national and the chapters.

    The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by individuals assigned to this position.  They are not intended as a comprehensive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Monthly credit card reconciliations for both National and chapters
    • Record transactions for employee reimbursements for National and the chapters.
    • Record deposits/credits entered through cash receipts or the accounts receivable module.
    • Reconcile the monthly Salesforce excel reports against the deposits for National.
    • Record bank transactions and reconcile National and chapter banks statements.
    • Support functional budgets where available.
    • Assist with Accounts Receivable communication and collection from the network.
    • Research, purchase and inventory branded merchandise 
    • Lead the finance training for new chapter operations managers.  
    • Correspond between the chapter operations managers and the senior accountants at National.
    • Two to four years of financial accounting experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with an accounting concentration.
    • Strong GAAP/internal controls knowledge.
    • Experience in supporting multiple business entities simultaneously.
    • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
    • Strong Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe Acrobat Pro; strong aptitude to learn new software.
    • Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with members of staff.

    REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

    • Detail and process oriented with the ability to spot inefficiencies and the confidence to suggest improvements.

    • Highly organized and efficient in completing various tasks with overlapping deadlines.

    PREFERRED COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Non-profit accounting experience
    • Experience with Financial Edge and Salesforce
