    Job Description

    COMPANY OVERVIEW:  GABS Academy is therapeutic-academic ABA school for children with Autism and emotional disturbance.  We are located in Jamison, PA and serve children from Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade.

    EDUCATION/TRAINING: Minimum of Master’s Degree in Education, Special Education, ABA or Psychology. Supervisor or Principal Certificate preferred

    CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: BCBA Certification preferred and license as Special Educator, Education Administrator or Principal Certification highly preferred. Minimum of one PA State Certification in Education.   Current clearances for child abuse, state criminal background check, federal criminal background check. SKILL(S): Knowledge of regulatory standards for PDE Regulations. This individual must have training in and knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis and be able to demonstrate bringing applied research to practice. Strong background in special education services and the application of applied behavior analysis with individuals with acquired behavioral disorders, intellectual/ developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. Strong experience working with individuals with significant challenging behaviors. Experience with research design and methods. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications or Google Documents. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of experience in special education or clinical work within public or approved private school settings and in implementing evidenced-based procedures for individuals with developmental disabilities, autism and challenging behaviors. Minimum of one (1) year of experience preferred in program management, skills in human resources, budget management and running clinical systems.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

    1. Collaborates with Owner, school special education teachers, and support staff for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.  Sets staffing levels for school special education programs for the purpose of providing services with school excellence.

    2. Directs personnel, for the purpose of delivering services which conform to established guidelines. 

    3. Monitors the implementation of special education and compliance with regulations in each location, for the purpose of carrying out and achieving objectives within area of responsibility.

    4. Facilitates meetings and processes, for the purpose of implementing and maintaining Special Education programs and services of the School which achieve desired objectives. 

    5. Implements assigned programs and/or projects for the purpose of conforming to School curriculum and/or instructional objectives. 

    6. Manages fiscal resources from the General Fund and special education grants, prepares budgets and directs spending, and monitors maintenance of effort, for the purpose of fiscal efficiency in providing required services. 

    7. Prepares documentation and reports data to the Owner for the purpose of providing written support, conveying information, and complying with Federal and State regulations. 

    8. Communicates information on programs, services, and regulations to school personnel, parents,  and other districts for the purpose of understanding of the programs. 

    9. Recruits, hires, supervises, and evaluates special education staff including special education teacher, BCBA, speech pathologists and assistants, occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurse, support staff and other school personnel deemed appropriate for the purpose of carrying out objectives within areas of responsibility.  

    10. Manages special education complaints, for the purpose of providing required services. 

    11. Coordinates with outside agencies to provide services to students and staff, for the purpose of offering appropriate services. 

    12. Supervises the training of special education teachers and  instructional assistants for the purpose of assuring well-trained personnel. 

    13. Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues, changes in the laws and case law, and educational methods of educating students with disabilities, for the purpose of managing an excellent special education program, 

    14. Other Job Functions: • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. 

    15. Researches a variety of information for the purpose of providing department leadership, implementing best practices, improving existing programs and/or developing new programs

    16. Other responsibilities as assigned

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 

    Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Microsoft word, power point, excel and written/verbal communication skills.

    Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: IDEA regulations, ABA Instructional Competencies, and Safe and Proactive Approaches

    Ability is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: professional leadership, communication and conflict resolution.

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; and tracking budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services. 

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The ability to support students in trained Crisis procedures that may include restraints.  This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
