    Company: Greater Elizabethtown Area Recreation and Community Services (GEARS) Position: Recreation Program Coordinator

    Supervisor: Senior Program Coordinator

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Hours: 40+ hours per week, flexible schedule required including days, evenings, and weekends as needed

    Salary Range: $40,000 - $45,000 annually based on experience

    Location: GEARS Community Center, but will be required to travel to various program sites

    JOB SUMMARY

    Under the general direction of the Senior Program Coordinator, the Program Coordinator plans, coordinates, promotes, and implements a variety of recreation programs for a population of 40,000+ of various ages and interests; coordinates and oversees the specific details for program implementation including budgeting, site selection, supplies, equipment, staffing, and other logistics; and seeks partners to support and assist in the delivery of leisure activities.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    *Develops, plans, and implements GEARS recreation programs; prepares and monitors a budget for each program and recommends fees and enrollment minimums to obtain targeted cost recovery; prepares reports and analyses of program participation; coordinates promotional materials for recreation programs; and, assists in the development of annual and longer-term goals to achieve continual growth and sustainability of programs *Explores grant opportunities to support programs and special events *Develops community partnerships with local businesses and civic organizations and seeks sponsors/donors to sustain program operations *Recruits skilled independent contractors for leisure instruction and sports officiating; recommends class fees based on market knowledge; monitors service delivery and enrollment; conducts and reviews participant satisfaction surveys

    • Coordinates marketing and advertising appropriate for recreation programs and helps prepare informational materials for the seasonal brochure, website, recreation management system, social media, and other outlets *Conducts research into recreation programming trends for youth, adults, senior citizens, sports, aquatics, fitness, adaptive recreation, performance and visual arts, and outdoor recreation. Translates research into programming recommendations and initiatives *Oversees registration and point-of-sale counters and the operation and monitoring of recreation sites *Maintains supply and equipment inventories; initiates purchases to obtain equipment and supplies for program implementation and obtains quotes *Ensures the accuracy of program registration, revenues, expenses, and attendance records; reviews and approves instructor and referee/umpire payments *Trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates assigned staff/volunteers *Investigate and recommend corrective action to resolve issues or conflicts and to provide a safe and healthy recreation environment for staff and participants. Works safely and follows safety policies and procedures *Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with GEARS policies and procedures

The requirements listed below are not an inclusive list but are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. *Knowledge of recreation programs and practices *Knowledge of recreation facility operations *Skill in training and supervising part-time/seasonal staff and volunteers *Working knowledge of recreation software management systems is preferred *Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing *Fundraising experience *Working Knowledge of social media and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS *A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, physical education, public administration, education or related field *One year of experience in public sector or nonprofit recreation program planning and delivery preferred, supervisory experience a plus

    REQUIREMENTS *Flexible schedule but the ability to work 40+ hours a week during non-traditional hours including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and in varying weather conditions as needed. *Two letters of reference *PA State Police criminal history *PA Child Abuse History Clearance *FBI background check *Valid PA Driver’s License
