    _SUMMARY OF POSITION _

    Manage the Family’s head office; provide CFO services to the Family represented by the Family Council. Responsibility focused on all nonoperational companies, portfolio investment companies and Real Estate. Responsible for Corporate Governance and Compliance. Support family on all investment and development activities. Provide clear overview of family wealth and results. Some international exposure. Confidentiality and ability to interact with multiple family members are critical.                

     

     

    _KEY RESPONSIBILITIES _

    • Lead the Finance Accounting Office team members in an inclusive and collaborative way. Responsible for hiring, motivating and developing Family Accounting Office (FAO) team members. 
    • Work to implement the appropriate Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) systems and processes to support GEM businesses and their asset growth targets.
    • Take a lead role in maintaining and improving Information Technology platforms to improve efficiency and reporting so as to support growth.
    • Partner as required with key managers and the Family Council on the financial requirements of businesses both in the U.S.A.  and overseas.
    • Act as an integral partner with business management and beneficiaries to achieve the desired short-term results and long-term growth.
    • Represent the Beneficiaries’ interests in the analyzing, setting and reporting of Targets and KPI’s for Business Units and Cost Centers. Deliver cost efficiencies for those costs controlled by the FAOMC
    • CORPORATE CONTROLLER
      • Preparation of quarterly consolidated financial statements for GEM group
      • Prepare expense budgets and accounting for the family office and for family beneficiary activities with quarterly reporting.
      • Prepare monthly financial statements for investment portfolio companies (6) and quarterly statements for all non-operating companies including holding companies.
      • Monitor intercompany balances, intercompany loans, interest and documentation.
      • Supervise US real estate and property management accounting.
      • Participate in, support and report results to Investment Committee meetings.
      • Perform a lead role in US and International Tax planning, coordinating with Tax accountants, lawyers and affected operational managers.
    • CORPORATE GOVERNANCE
      • Understand current ownership structure in U.S.A. and offshore. Co-ordinate with multiple countries to optimize and update ownership structure.
      • Manage relationships with banks, registered agents, trustees, financial advisors, legal counsel and ownership . 
      • Proactively provide information required to be in full compliance with financial institutions, trustees, registered agents, government agencies etc. (company registers/ local tax returns/ financials/ KYC/ AML/ beneficiary disclosure reporting ).
      • Keep abreast of regulatory changes in multiple jurisdictions and their impact on the corporate structure and beneficiaries: see above.
    • TREASURY
      • Treasury function for the GEM group:  cash flow planning and follow up. 
      • Coordinate with Investment Committee, asset managers and operational management.
      • Coordinate and execute all corporate U.S.A. and offshore payments.
      • Financial support for Venezuela (hyper inflationary) and South Africa.
      • Dividends: proposals, approval and distribution for beneficiaries. Prepare trust statements for beneficiaries in multiple tax jurisdictions. Respond to inquiries relating to Trust reported income and assets, generated by tax authorities or beneficiaries’ advisors.
    • FAMILY COUNCIL & COMMITTEES SUPPORT
      • Develop and report on shareholder performance expectations for ongoing concerns and liquid portfolios.
      • Implementation and follow up of Family Council decisions. 
      • Represent Family Council before third parties.
      • To be a key team member to participate in the interpretation and enforcement of various Trust Deeds.
      • Support to Audit, Education and Foundation Committees
      • Maintenance of Family Council and family records.
      • Provide institutional representation of the CFM to the beneficiaries.
    • COMPLEMENTARY ROLES
      • Ad Hoc Projects as required.
      • Participate in resolution of outstanding Legacy Situations (Family Partnerships, Minority shareholders etc., Accounting and Balance Sheet Re-structuring/consolidation of Non-Operational companies.) 
      • Management support to special situations (Venezuela downsizing).

    _PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS _

    Qualified candidates will be proven financial experts with strong team leadership and interpersonal experience. Prior family business and /or family office experience is required. Preferred candidates will have 10+ years of experience with high learning & strong motivation for collaborative multi-disciplined problem-solving capacity required. 

    Specific skills should include: 

    • Ability to help develop, shape & execute a successful business strategy & plan with ownership & executive team. Strategic financial analysis capacity, passion, intellectual curiosity & the implementation skills to both shape and to impact business growth. 
    • Prior team leadership experience with the ability to teach & to motivate others to higher levels of performance. 
    • Strong foundational skills in finance & accounting in a manufacturing / costing environment & experience in preparation of Financial Statements preferred.
    • Outstanding analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data into key data points to influence & to directly impact important business decisions. 
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational management skills with a sincere appreciation for people and professional values and differences - someone who leads by example and respects diverse cultural backgrounds. 
    • An aggressive yet poised personal style with the presence and communication skills to motivate employees, to interface directly with all levels (both within & external to the Company) and to represent the Family and/or its enterprises, as required, within the industry as well as the family businesses & local communities.

    _EDUCATION _: An undergraduate degree in accounting is required with strong finance experience & education. An advanced degree or MBA is a strong preference. Also beneficial is General Management or other functional experience beyond Finance & Accounting.
