     GIRL SCOUTS OF SOUTHWEST TEXAS (GSSWT) is a community-based organization dedicated to building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. GSSWT has nearly 30,000 girl and adult members in its 21-county area, including Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, Maverick, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Wilson and Zavala.   Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) is the world’s preeminent organization for girls, with a membership of 2.8 million girls and adults. Today, as when founded in 1912, GSUSA helps cultivate values, social conscience and self-esteem in young girls, while also teaching them critical life skills that will enable them to succeed as adults. In Girl Scouting, and its special girl-only environment, girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together.   We are currently looking for individuals to fill the following Summer Camp positions at CAMP METRO LOCATED AT WEST SIDE GIRL SCOUT LEADERSHIP CENTER

     

    UNIT COUNSELOR

    Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. The counselor is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their camper group within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes
    • Assures campers are always properly supervised
    • Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes
    • Responsible for leading or assisting with the teaching of activities
    • Assist in all camp activities as directed
    • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff
    • Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs
    • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
    • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures
    • Set a good example to campers and others regarding general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship
    • Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members
    • Follow safety and security protocols when campers are in public while presenting a positive image of the camp
    • Provide supervision for campers while campers are transported to and from camp or during scheduled field trips off camp property

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be 18 years of age or high school graduate
    • Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR (Will be provided during training week)
    • Ability to interact with all age levels
    • Available from June 1 – August 7, 2020

    Job Type: Temporary

    Salary: $9.50 /hour
