Senior and Journey GIS Data Specialist
We are seeking experienced and motivated GIS Data Specialists at both the Senior and Journey levels to support enterprise geospatial database administration, management, and web service development. These professionals will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing geospatial data infrastructure for nationwide GIS customers.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, maintain, and operate enterprise geodatabases and associated SQL Server or Postgres instances.
• Create functional specifications and recommend solutions for alphanumeric and geospatial data systems.
• Develop and maintain databases and data systems, reorganizing data in readable formats.
• Use automated tools to extract, clean, and repair data from various sources.
• Define database physical structure and storage requirements.
• Develop and document metadata records for data management systems and standards.
• Design and implement enterprise data architecture and physical data models.
• Monitor and optimize database performance, manage backups, and ensure data recovery capabilities.
• Publish geospatial web services and configure enterprise geodatabases to support editing workflows.
• Implement new releases and perform maintenance tasks.
• Align processes with security best practices and support Authority to Operate (ATO) development.
• Explore and implement unstructured and NoSQL data patterns as needed.
• Implement and monitor security controls and respond to database security alerts.
• Provide input to POAMs for non-compliant ATO boundary checks.
Key Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in GIS database administration, spatial data management, or geospatial systems engineering.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS platform, ArcSDE, and geodatabase design; Proficiency in SQL, Python, and scripting for geospatial automation; Experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Microsoft SQL Server, or other enterprise RDBMS platforms.
• Data Management: Skilled in spatial data modeling, data normalization, and metadata documentation; Experience managing large-scale spatial datasets and optimizing performance for spatial queries.
• System Integration: Familiarity with GIS web services (e.g., REST, WMS, WFS) and integration with enterprise systems; Experience with cloud-based GIS solutions (e.g., ArcGIS Online, AWS, Azure).
• Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot database issues, perform data integrity checks, and implement backup/recovery strategies.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting procedures and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Certifications (Preferred): ESRI Technical Certification (e.g., ArcGIS Desktop Professional, Enterprise Geodata Management); CompTIA Security+ or other relevant IT certifications for federal environments; GISP Certification established by the GIS Certification Institute
