    Position summary & objectives:

    The position of Baker at Glenwood Academy entails preparing a wide range of baked goods, ensuring quality, freshness, and consistency in products. This role requires expertise in baking, recipe execution, cleanliness maintenance, supervision of student workers, and ensuring a safe and healthy environment in the school kitchen. Attention to detail, creativity, and a passion for baking are essential for success in this role.

    Essential functions:

    • Mix and prepare doughs for various baked goods according to recipes and production schedules.
    • Operate baking equipment such as ovens, mixers, and dough sheeters to bake and cook products to perfection.
    • Ensure that all baked goods meet quality standards in terms of taste, texture, and appearance.
    • Maintain cleanliness in the baking area, including preparing workstations and clean-up after baking.
    • Monitor ingredient levels and communicate with food service supervisor to order supplies.
    • Work closely with other kitchen staff members to coordinate baking schedule and tasks efficiently.
    • Keep work areas, baking equipment, and utensils clean and sanitized to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Adhere to food safety standards and regulations to prevent contamination and ensure food safety for consumers.
    • Assist in supervising student workers.
    • Demonstrate a dedication to continuous quality improvement in baking techniques.

    Additional responsibilities

    • Attend regular statutory training as well as other role specific training.
    • The baker also maintains flexibility to adjust work schedule according to Agency needs.
    • Complete all necessary reports, forms and documentations accurately and timely.
    • Assist with baking at special events if requested.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Required qualifications:

    • At least 21 years of age.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
    • Minimum education level is a high school diploma or GED
    • Current Sanitation Certificate
    • No history of child abuse or neglect.

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Three years’ experience in baking or food service environment.
    • A certificate from an accredited technical or vocational school for the completion in culinary arts
    • Experience working with children and youth

    Working conditions:

    School Cafeteria/Dining Hall Environment, Moderate Noise. Work shifts often include early mornings, late afternoon.

    Physical requirements:

    The job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (20 pounds’ maximum), carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and sitting, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
