    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    • The Software Safety Engineer identifies and eliminates safety hazards associated with all development activities throughout the entire program/product lifecycle in support of NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) development effort at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).
    • The Software System Safety Engineer will perform review and analysis of engineering design concepts; investigate and analyze relevant engineering data potentially affecting safe operation of the product and its processes; Analyzes planning documents and develops S/W safety engineering approaches to meet customer, NASA, and other applicable requirements.
    • Experience in performing complex Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Hazard Assessments (HAs) is highly desirable.
    • Efforts include: engineering analysis of systems to identify and eliminate safety software hazards, integrated hazards analysis, inputs to the software safety testing requirements as well as software verifications, systematic application of safety policies to the design of NASA human-rated hardware, and assistance in the overall implementation of safety practices for systems/subsystems.
    • Experience performing analyses in accordance with NASA-STD-8719.13B and NASA-STD-8715.3. Familiarity with Mil-STD-882C is highly desirable.

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
    • 7+ years of experience
    • Must be a US Citizen or green card holder
    • Must be able to pass a National Agency Check
    • Requires pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol testing
    • Experience with Avionics; software and hardware.

     

    OTHER DESIRED SKILLS:

    • Position requires excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously and effectively with co-workers, management and all levels of customer personnel.
    • Effective working within a team environment and as a standalone subject matter expert.
    • Required to be regular in attendance (per agreed upon work schedule), consistently punctual and can be relied upon to successfully complete all assignments.
    • Computer literate and proficient in Windows based PCs with database and Microsoft (Word, Excel, etc.) applications.
