PRIMARY EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVES
The Materials Specialist is primarily responsible for planning, buying, quality, inventorying and staging of materials in support of the operations team tasked with assembling the Galvion family of helmet systems.
The Materials Specialist serves as a role model for all team members and is responsible for cross training individuals to assume her/his responsibilities in case of absence. As a member of the core team, the Materials Specialist must lead by example in a professional and efficient manner at all times, serving as a mentor, coach and counselor.
SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
PEOPLE:
Work closely with Supply Chain Management team to support strategic buying initiatives as required
Work with receiving to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and report any back-ordered or missing products
Work with Quality team and suppliers on generating and processing RMA's. Participate in corrective action requests.
Develop good supplier partnerships for materials being purchased, including inventory stocking programs
Coordinate with Manufacturing Manager for the staging of daily and weekly materials, sub-components and components on the production line
Demonstrate professionalism while interacting with vendor/suppliers via phone/e-mail
PROCESS:
PLANNING DUTIES include knowledge of all components needed to assemble helmet systems within the production plan including a full understanding of bill of materials, unit cost, component and sub-component lead times, minimum order quantities, packaging requirements, storage requirements, identification requirements, documentation and reporting requirements.
BUYING DUTIES include purchasing materials to support production in coordination with the Director, Supply Chain Management for shared components across the enterprise, local purchase items, disposable supplies and maintenance items needed in support of the operations team.
Responsible for placing and maintaining all approved purchase orders on a daily basis
Track incoming purchase orders, take corrective action as required and communicate problems that could affect operations
Utilize the Syteline ERP system efficiently and accurately in the execution of the daily job requirements and to monitor open purchase orders.
Participate in purchasing and freight cost reduction initiatives that support company goals
QUALITY DUTIES include coordination with the Director, Quality for minimum requirements for certificates of compliance, visual inspection, non-destructive testing and destructive testing, as needed
INVENTORYING DUTIES includes the accountability and visibility of all incoming, on-hand, outgoing and in-transit materials, subcomponents, components and finished helmet systems.
Monitors inventory by completing counts as required, analyzing cycle count variance to confirm root causes and corrective actions
Maintain proper inventory levels (min/max) of materials used on a regular basis
STAGING DUTIES include the planning, preparation, pulling and staging of all sub-components and components needed on a daily basis for the assembly of helmet systems on the product line.
Store products by designating storage areas, adjust storage areas according to production and shipping requirements and update location database
Reconcile discrepancies between supplier shipments & contractual obligations
Place all approved purchase orders daily
Execute change orders to the vendors as necessary
Verifies product inventory reports by comparing logs, reports and adjusting entries
Run and generate material shortage reports and pull in deliveries as required daily.
PERFORMANCE:
Deliver a weekly purchase order report to management that indicates the vendor invoice number for all closed purchase orders
Insure performance metrics are sustained, i.e. Health & Safety, Quality, Delivery, Costs and others, and work to implement corrective actions
Ensure system integrity to include supplier lead times, standard costs and purchase order receipt dates
Document actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records; maintaining databases.
Provide/Follow-up metrics based on supplier's performance.
As needed, the Materials Specialist assists in the receiving, material handling, warehousing and shipping of materials, sub-components, components and finished helmet systems needed to facilitate Galvion achieving daily, weekly and monthly operational plan.
Perform other duties as required.
Run an open purchase order report, update vendor confirmation dates for each PO as received from the suppliers daily

Some travel may be required between Galvion facilities.

Must regularly lift and move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
