At Acumen, LLC, technical writing is more than just writing user guides or system specifications. It’s about creating top-quality, useful information resources on Acumen’s custom-built computing systems, modern operational processes, and out-of-the-box technological ventures.
We’re looking for an entry-level technical writer to help our team produce compelling, best-in-class information resources—traditional user guides and system specifications to next-generation video-based tutorials and HTML-based knowledge bases—on Acumen’s technological services.
What You’ll Do:
As an entry-level Acumen Tech Writer, you’ll work with software developers, data processors, system administrators, security analysts, and proposal staff to:
- Craft first-rate information resources on Acumen’s technological services, methods, and ventures;
- Transform drafted content into simple, polished, and useful information products; and
- Leverage an array of communications technologies (e.g., Word, InDesign, Robohelp, and Camtasia) to effectively deliver content to heterogeneous audiences.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor of Arts in a writing intensive field, Bachelor of Science with a communications minor, or commensurate experience
- Superb written and oral communication skills
- Able to think critically the information that you develop and/or edit
- Able to structure information logically and consistently
- Proficient at Chicago, MLA, or APA style guidelines
- Basic knowledge of technical writing principles
- Good time management skills
- 1-3 years of writing experience in a structured work environment
- Demonstrated initiative in seeking ways to contribute to organizational success and move beyond the narrow definition of job responsibilities
- Demonstrated interest in information technologies and/or information security
- An ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and translate them into clear, easy-to-understand content
- An ability to proactively communicate the status of information resources to a range of content stakeholders
- Ability to thrive in both team and self-managed environments
- Experience with or interest in Agile documentation principles
