    POSITION TITLE:  ­­­­­Anatomy & Physiology Instructor (part-time)

    POSITION STATUS: Instructor

    FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Department Chair SUPERVISES: No supervisory responsibilities associated with this position

    The Community College of Aurora (CCA) Science Department is seeking enthusiastic professionals that have a passion for teaching and helping students succeed in their chosen field.  The Science Department is comprised of a team of highly skilled and dedicated individuals that demonstrate excellence in the classroom. 

    The successful candidate creates a classroom climate that encourages learning and possesses familiarity with issues facing diverse populations.  The characteristics crucial to success in the position include creative academic leadership skills, excellent communication skills, a sense of humor, and a strong appreciation for working in a collaborative, inclusive, diverse, and participative environment.   

    POSITION SUMMARY: Teach Anatomy & Physiology courses using techniques and pedagogies effective for a group of diverse students.  Instructors will need to be available to teach days and/or evenings on a part-time basis.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop lesson plans, activities, and assessments that lead students to the successful attainment of identified course competencies
    • Evaluate student performance in accordance with student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus
    • Teach assigned classes in keeping with community college philosophy.
    • Be knowledgeable about pedagogy, methods, retention, inclusion, and assessment of outcomes (or be available and willing to receive training in these areas)
    • One week prior to the first day of class, provide the Faculty Lead as well as department assistant with a copy of the course syllabus.
    • At the first class meeting, provide students with a syllabus for the course that includes all components of the course model syllabus and the competencies established in the Colorado Common Course Numbering System
    • Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures at the end of the semester
    • Maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of students and submit no-shows, grades, and required records to the college via Banner by the required deadlines
    • Attend required meetings
    • Complete the DesireToLearn (D2L) training and New Faculty Orientation
    • Participate in coaching/mentoring and assessment initiatives established by Department Chair and/or Faculty Lead

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree in Anatomy, Physiology, Biology or related field.
    • Teaching experience preferred

    SALARY:   Instructional hours will be paid at the current instructor rate, which is $824.00 per credit hour.  This is a 4 credit course with additional pay for lab hours.  

    POSITION SPECIFICS: Positions are available for the fall 2019 semester.  These positions are part-time.  There are no insurance benefits offered with these positions.  However, other benefits associated with this type of position include, a pension plan through the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association and eligibility to contribute to supplemental retirement plans.

  • Qualifications

    Associate's Degree in Welding or related field with two years' experience in the industry, five years preferred. Prefer teaching experience at the college level. Certified Welding Inspector preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities and cultures. Experience with instructional technology preferred.

     

    Responsible for instruction and facilitating student learning; committed to student recruitment, retention and success; assessment of learning, development of curriculum and use of instructional delivery modes utilizing both traditional and non-traditional methodology.

    1. Teach assigned course which may include day, night, and online courses, as well as at the main campus and extension centers. Classes are to meet on time for the full allotted time.
    2. Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximize documented student learning.
    3. Prepare, submit and maintain reports related to student learning.
    4. Grading assignments in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, returning graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assigning final grades for all students, meeting or beating all institutional deadlines for completion.
    5. Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled and posted times (i.e., office hours) or by appointment.
    6. Encourage student opinion survey completion for each class and then reviewed after summary information available to assist with increasing student success.
    7. Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training or hour.
    8. Perform other duties as assigned.
