    OVERVIEW OF CCA AND TITLE V GRANT:

    The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is a public, two-year community college serving Aurora and east metro Denver. CCA enrolls 11,000 students annually, over 62% of whom are students of color, including nearly 32% Hispanic students.  65% of CCA students receive some type of financial aid, including 52% of whom receive Pell grants, and nearly two-thirds are first-generation college students.  CCA was recently awarded a U.S. Department of Education Title V Grant to fund the ASEGURANDO TODO EL POTENCIAL DE NUESTROS ESTUDIANTES: ENSURING OUR STUDENTS’ FULL POTENTIAL project.

    Through the project, CCA will scale and sustain culturally-responsive pedagogy practices and curricular enhancements in targeted associate of science and associate of arts gateway and second-level courses. CCA will develop and scale Guided Pathways communities, as well as imbedded Learning Communities in order to eliminate equity gaps and increase retention, completion and transfer outcomes for Hispanic and other students of color, as well as low-income and first-generation students. CCA will also build the data analysis and evaluation practices needed to effectively monitor leading and lagging outcomes on an ongoing basis and make timely adjustments to programs and strategies where needed.  The project design is based on best practice research, including the study by MDRC of Kingsborough Community College’s Freshman Learning Community Program (Sommo, et.al., 2012) from the What Works Clearinghouse.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Community College of Aurora is a dynamic institution that strives to serve its diverse student population through innovations in instruction and student support founded on principles of equity and inclusivity. The Community College of Aurora aspires to be the college where every student succeeds. The English department Inclusive Pedagogy Instructional Coach is a professional educator and expertise in the field of English who engages faculty and instructors in collaboratively developing culturally responsive and inclusive teaching and learning approaches and instructional practices that eliminate equity gaps for underserved student populations. This role facilitates the implementation of evidence-based practices, the integration of new technologies into teaching and learning.

    The coach will work with faculty and instructors to improve retention, completion, and success rates in pathway English courses. This position will provide departmental support, instructional coaching, and trainings while supporting faculty and instructors with best practice research, design and testing of interventions, and data collection and analysis that upholds student-centered and equity-minded teaching and learning.

    Required Skills

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Research, design and testing of culturally-responsive pedagogy practices and curricular enhancements in associate of science pathway courses
    • Conduct research, collect and analyze data and engage faculty and instructor expertise to inform the design of culturally inclusive teaching and learning
    • Collaboratively develop research proven instructional methods to meet the individual and collective needs of students taking science courses related to the Title V grant.
    • Develop and facilitate culturally-responsive pedagogy workshops in partnership with the Center’s dean, department chair, faculty, and instructors
    • Secure discipline specific external resources, professional development opportunities and materials to support the science department and individual faculty
    • Lead instructional intervention research, design, implementation and assessment with science design team
    • Analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to assess outcomes related to student success, equity gaps, and intervention effectiveness
    • Collaborate across disciplines and departments to scale instructional interventions
    • Conduct instructor observations and provide support through instructional coaching to strengthen teaching and learning
    • Other duties as assigned

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s Degree in biology, chemistry or other science related content areas.
    • Higher education and/or P-20 teaching experience in the science field.
    • Strong knowledge of science content area and ability to implement and embed inclusive pedagogy and culturally responsive teaching and learning related to diverse students, course curriculum, and content.
    • Experience coaching science faculty and instructors.
    • Experience in analyzing data and using results to inform decision making.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to engaging in diversity, inclusion and equity practices in prior professional roles.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Expertise in national trends and best practices in science curriculum
    • Experience teaching in a community college setting
    • Extensive instructional knowledge and experience in the areas of culturally-responsive and inclusive pedagogy
    • Experience with utilizing adult learning theory to engage and coach adult learners
    • Proven experience in developing, implementing and assessing high-impact practices and instructional strategies that have led to the dismantling of structures that maintain inequity.

     SALARY RANGE:  Anticipated salary range is $48,000.00 to $50,000.00 The specific salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
