    POSITION STATUS: Instructor

    The Community College of Aurora (CCA) Science Department is seeking enthusiastic professionals that have a passion for teaching and helping students succeed in their chosen field.  The Science Department is comprised of a team of highly skilled and dedicated individuals that demonstrate excellence in the classroom. 

    The successful candidate creates a classroom climate that encourages learning and possesses familiarity with issues facing diverse populations.  The characteristics crucial to success in the position include creative academic leadership skills, excellent communication skills, a sense of humor, and a strong appreciation for working in a collaborative, inclusive, diverse, and participative environment.   

    POSITION SUMMARY: Teach Chemistry courses using techniques and pedagogies effective for a group of diverse students.  Instructors will need to be available to teach days and/or evenings on a part-time basis.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop lesson plans, activities, and assessments that lead students to the successful attainment of identified course competencies
    • Evaluate student performance in accordance with student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus
    • Teach assigned classes in keeping with community college philosophy.
    • Be knowledgeable about pedagogy, methods, retention, inclusion, and assessment of outcomes (or be available and willing to receive training in these areas)
    • One week prior to the first day of class, provide the Faculty Lead as well as department assistant with a copy of the course syllabus and handouts of required/graded assignments
    • At the first class meeting, provide students with a syllabus for the course that includes all components of the course model syllabus and the competencies established in the Colorado Common Course Numbering System
    • Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures at the end of the semester
    • Maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of students and submit no-shows, grades, and required records to the college via Banner by the required deadlines
    • Attend required meetings
    • Complete the DesireToLearn (D2L) training and New Faculty Orientation
    • Participate in coaching/mentoring and assessment initiatives established by Department Chair and/or Faculty Lead

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A Master’s degree in the content or related area is required.
    • College level teaching or teaching assistant experience in Chemistry is required.
    • Must be able to teach on campus.

     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Community college teaching experience
    • PhD in a related field
    • Proven track record in developing and implementing new curricular activities that impact student success
    • Demonstrated interest in engaging and impacting underrepresented students
    • Prior college level teaching

    SALARY:   Instructional hours will be paid at the current adjunct rate, which is $849.00 per credit hour.  Our courses are 4-5 credit hours, with an additional pay for added contact hours for the laboratory.

    POSITION SPECIFICS: Positions are available for the spring 2019 semester.  These positions are part-time.  There are no insurance benefits offered with these positions.  However, other benefits associated with this type of position include, a pension plan through the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association and eligibility to contribute to supplemental retirement plans.

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems or or Finance preferred; 10+ years of Information Technology (IT)-related experience; or the equivalent combination of knowledge, training, certifications and/or experience.
    • Demonstrated advanced understanding of data structures for reporting and analytics.
    • Proven ability to delivery enterprise class technical requirements and documentation.
    • Experience with two or more business intelligence tools (i.e. Tableau, Cognos, MicroStrategy, SAS, Business Objects, Qlikview, PowerBI).
    • Proficient in the use of data modelling tools (i.e. ERStudio, ERWin, ODDM)
    • Excellent written and verbal skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • An understanding of ETL technologies.
    • This position will support a federal government contract.
