  • Responsibilities

    The NSSS organization is a technical unit of the Installed Base Engineering organization. The Nuclear Analysis section is responsible for safety analysis, methods development, reload support, radiation transport, criticality evaluations, and thermal-hydraulic support for operating plants.

    Typical Assignments:

    • Review plant drawings and build fluence or radiological models
    • Develop Analytical Input Summary documents
    • Develop Safety Grade calculations for Fluence and Dose Analyses
      • Reactor Vessel Beltline Fluence
      • LOCA dose
      • Fuel Handling Accident
      • Steam Generator Tube Rupture dose
      • Decay Heat
    • Interface with Outage Services for reactor vessel cavity dosimetry exchanges
    • Develop Engineering Information Records
      • Fuel Reload Cycle Disposition Safety Grade documents
      • Engineering Dispositions
      • FSAR Markups
    • Develop Engineering Summary / Licensing Reports
      • Summary documents of Calculations

    Licensing Reports that summarize calculations that the customer can transmit to US NRC

    SUMMARY

    Under general supervision, performs varied and more difficult engineering tasks requiring application of established techniques and procedures. Assignments involve responsibility for planning/conducting a complete task or portion of a larger project under direction of more experienced staff. Provides technical support related to planning, designing, analyzing, constructing and maintaining structures, systems and components. Provides engineering advice, as needed.

    MAJOR DUTIES

    • Performs routine and non-routine engineering assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems.
    • Solves a range of straightforward problems, analyzes solutions and assesses each using standard procedures.
    • Receives assistance and instructions on unusual or more complex features and possible solutions, as needed.
    • Ensures compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards.
    • Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making minor adaptations and modifications.
    • Builds knowledge of organization processes and customers.
    • Works on special projects, as directed.
    • Performs other related duties and tasks, as required.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • BS in Nuclear Engineering or Physics. plus 2-3 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 yr engineering degree.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Demonstrated knowledge of related engineering standards
    • techniques and criteria ; Good communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data
    • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships
    • Good problem identification and problem resolution skills
    • Engineering organizations may have additional qualification requirements with established criterion to demonstrate success including such items as training courses and/or qualification cards.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

    The employee must be able to: 

    • Remain in a stationary position, walk, kneel and crouch.

    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

    Knowledge and Experience

    • High level of integrity is required.
