REPORTS TO: Nursery General Manager

SCHEDULE: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

SUMMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Nursery Division is undergoing rapid growth and this position is a vital part it’s overall success. Successful candidates will be able to manage multiple assignments with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, be a team player, have excellent attention to detail, excellent nursery growing understanding, excellent relation-building skills and maintain a level of confidentiality and professionalism while helping this family business succeed, grow and transition.

PRIMARY DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS:

• Sourcing and procurement of plant material and products as needed for all areas; including pre-season purchasing, weekly re-orders, new and upcoming products/promotions/etc.
• Identifying cost saving and cost reduction opportunities
• Ensuring the execution of standards, controls, policies, procedures and performance metrics to effectively and efficiently manage the acquisition and reporting of Nursery expenditures
• Maintain positive and cohesive relationship with vendors
• Produce Purchase orders, verify receipt of items, and resolve shipment errors or damages with vendor and ensure purchasing /receiving accuracy within Garden View Nursery’s system
• Effectively negotiate with vendors for optimum pricing without compromising quality
• Works with vendor to schedule or expedite deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed or late deliveries, and other problems
• Stays abreast of changes in product, prices, term discounts, etc.
• Perform other related duties and assignments as requested

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience working in a nursery or horticulture for at least 2 years
• Working knowledge of Southern California wholesale grower nurseries
• Have knowledge of planting procedures & plant knowledge
• Proficiency in, or the willingness to learn, Excel, Word and other web-based programs (i.e., Zoho, Trello)
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Good time management skills, ability to multi-task
• Fluent in Spanish & English (Preferred)
• Must have valid driver’s license, clean driving record and pass background check

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS: Safety First!

Job requires extensive computer work and sitting. Often includes temporary work outside in the nursery as well as traveling to other nurseries for locating purchase opportunities in outdoor weather conditions on uneven ground surfaces. Individuals may be required to do any or all of these situations throughout the work day, with an emphasis on sitting for a major portion of the day.
