  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    I. JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for scanning all patients’ medical records in accurate and complete manner into an EHR. Assist in various other duties in the Medical Records Department. II. JOB RELATIONSHIPS:              

    • Directly reports to Revenue Cycle Manager
    • Interdepartmental collaboration throughout all areas of the practice
    • Interacts and communicates with other healthcare organizations to obtain needed information

                                          III. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Prepare documentation for scanning.
    • Effectively handle record requests from physician offices, insurance companies, hospitals, etc.
    • Handle all certified mail.
    • Demonstrate excellent customer service and phone etiquette
    • Effectively handle patient record requests
    • Check appointment schedules and ensure that needed records are in chart.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    IV. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    The following are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job:

    EDUCATION: High School degree WORK EXPERIENCE: (Preferred) Minimum one year of medical records clerk/health information technician experience, preferably in medical practice setting. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Knowledge of scanning equipment and computers.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology.
    • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines.
    • Ability to work in a very fast paced environment.
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills
    • Demonstrates excellent customer service and effective communication skills
    • Positive attitude with team-centered approach

    V. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Must be able to sit/stand/walk for extended periods of time
    • Ability to communicate effectively with outside entities via telephone and/or written correspondence
    • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting boxes and equipment up to 25 lbs.
    • Requires correct vision and hearing to normal range
    • Requires continuous interaction with computer terminal
    • Requires occasional bending, twisting, squatting, and kneeling in office
