    WHAT WE DO

    For over 40 years, Gateway Domestic Violence Services has been a leader and innovator that provides a highly effective combination of shelter and comprehensive services to adults and children fleeing domestic violence. Gateway is the only 24/7 shelter available in the City of Aurora and Arapahoe County, offering emergency shelter and extended-stay care, together with a crisis line, counseling, and court advocacy. Our Mission is to prevent and eliminate intimate partner violence through counseling, residential care, and empowering people for social change. 

    Under new leadership, Gateway is excited to continue our legacy while transitioning into our next chapter. We are looking for passionate, dedicated employees to work in our emergency shelter and extended stay care, and to support our caring, comprehensive services.     WHO WE SERVE

    Our service area includes the City of Aurora and Arapahoe County. Most of our clients are women and a third of those we serve are dependent children, men, and LGBTQIA individuals.  All victims are welcomed. Most Gateway clients are low-income, earning at or below 30% of area median income.

    THE OPPORTUNITY Under the direction of the Shelter Director, our Child/Family Advocate provides case management services to victims of domestic violence that include crisis intervention, intake services, individual emotional support, advocacy and crisis line support. Our Advocates are adept at handling crisis situations and working with diverse populations. 

    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

    • Crisis intervention, screening and assessment services to victims of domestic violence, including intake into our residential services.
    • Complete child assessments with parent and child.
    • Provide structured activities for children on a regular weekly basis and provides them with age-appropriate information on domestic violence.
    • Provide parenting resources to parents.
    • Provide advocacy and follow up services for children and parents; 
    • Completes child abuse reports, when necessary, in a timely manner according to mandatory reporting laws.
    • Provides advocacy support and serves as a liaison between local agencies and clients on an emergency basis. 
    • Understands trauma informed care and how to use it in crisis situations while providing emotional support.   
    • Lead psycho-educational groups.  
    • Maintains complete client files, including standard forms and progress notes. 
    • Interacts with clients and resolves disputes using mediation skills.
    • Responsible for proper safety precautions and security procedures.
    • Develops awareness of community resources available to referral partners.

    WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION 

    • Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field preferred, but related work experience will be considered
    • A minimum of one-year experience in human services area with experience in counseling and crisis intervention, including a working knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence.

    • Works effectively as part of a team to deliver overall services. 
    • CPR and First Aid certified, preferred. 
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Bilingual Skills a plus.

    WHAT OUR ORGANIZATION IS PROVIDING

    • Expected annual salary range of $40,500 to $44,720 depending on experience and education
    • Health insurance.
    • Life insurance.
    • Mileage reimbursement.
    • Paid time off, accruing 26 pay periods annually totally 3 weeks of vacation and 12 days of wellness time.
    • 10 paid holidays.
    • Weekly work schedule will be determined at time of hiring.  Some 4 10-hour shift opportunities are available.
