General Helper - Grinder Operator Support

    The General Helper will work closely with the Grinder Operator to support daily grinding and metal‑finishing operations. This role assists with machine setup, material handling, basic tool operation, and maintaining a safe, organized work environment. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, follows instructions well, and is comfortable working around industrial equipment. This position is an excellent entry point for individuals interested in developing skills in grinding, machining, and metal fabrication. Under supervision, the General Helper will support the Grinder Operator by performing tasks such as: Machine & Tool Support • Assist with setting up grinding machines and preparing materials for production. • Help operate electric and air grinding equipment to shape and smooth metal surfaces. • Support the use of drill presses, hand drills, hand saws, and other shop tools as needed. • Select and organize grinding wheels and related tools for upcoming jobs. • Perform basic machine cleaning and upkeep to ensure equipment remains in safe working condition. Production Assistance • Help round corners, tighten edges, and smooth surfaces on cabinet doors, frames, walls, and small metal parts. • Assist in reaming tubes, reaming door handles, and drilling holes in sheet metal. • Inspect parts for accuracy under supervision and report any defects or irregularities. • Maintain accurate production notes or assist the Grinder Operator in recordkeeping. Safety & Workplace Standards • Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE at all times. • Check grinding equipment and tools for safe operation before use. • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard‑free work area. Qualifications: • Willingness to learn grinding and machining processes. • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand and power tools. • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials as required. Education and Experience: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
