About the Position: The General Maintenance & Equipment Operator is responsible for operating feedyard equipment while also performing maintenance, repair, and upkeep of facilities, grounds, and feed bunk systems. This position includes welding and fabrication projects and supports overall yard operations to ensure a safe, functional, and efficient environment.
Job Responsibilities:

- Operate equipment (such as loaders, tractors, skidsteers, and forklifts) to maintain yard operations.
- Identify, clean, and maintain cattle pens, roads, bunks, and alleys.
- Maintain road surfaces and pen conditions by filling in holes, controlling dust, removing manure, and ensuring proper slope and drainage.
- Ensure a continuous supply of fresh water to cattle by repairing water systems, tanks, and pipelines.
- Perform welding and fabrication projects to repair, modify, or build equipment, tools, and structures.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and repairs of feedyard buildings, feed bunks, fences, cable, and other infrastructure.
- Service equipment as directed, including fueling, greasing, cleaning, and performing safety checks.
- Mow grass/weeds, sweep bunks, and perform general yard upkeep.
- Follow company safety rules and policies; report unsafe conditions and practice safe equipment operation.
- Adapt to changes in work environment, company policies, and feedyard needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Degree, GED, or Technical Degree, preferred.
- 1–2 years of welding experience, preferred.
- Previous experience operating equipment or working in a maintenance/mechanical role is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to interpret instructions delivered in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
