POSITION SUMMARY:
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for overseeing and guiding the arena’s operations and the long-term success of the Lockport Ice Arena & Sports Center. The role centers on, but is not limited to, facility operations/management, revenue growth, financial management, marketing, sales, staff development, relationship management, customer service, and strong, effective leadership. The General Manager will report directly to the Board of Directors and oversee all aspects of the arena with the support of Pinnacle Indoor Sports.
We’re seeking a motivated, experienced leader with experience in the sports, recreation, and ice arena industry, with a strong focus on driving growth, enhancing programming, and leadership.
Core Responsibilities
Develop a strategic plan to advance the arena's mission and to promote revenue, sustainability, and growth within the arena with measurable goals. These goals will be tracked by the GM and reported to the Board of Directors on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Oversee daily operations, including ice maintenance, facility upkeep, and scheduling.
Oversees the seasonal changeover of the ice rink flooring, working closely with the Director of Facilities.
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards.
Develop and implement policies and procedures for facility operations.
Manage inventory and procurement of supplies and equipment.
Ensure overall safety standards for employees and users of the arena.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all facility operations.
Build and manage the annual budget with the board of directors, ensuring financial performance aligns with goals.
Develop and execute strategies to increase revenue through programming, sponsorships, concessions, parties, events, pro shop and rentals.
Monitor the arena's financial performance, including revenue and expenses, payroll, AR/AP, inventory, and cash control.
Secure bids for capital improvements and prepare proposals for the Board of Directors.
Create and recommend a capital improvement budget for Board approval.
Develop and execute a marketing and sales plan for the arena with the marketing firm.
Promote the facility through written articles, public relations efforts, and appearances with board support.
Represent the Facility at community events and at formal functions.
Hire, train, and supervise facility staff.
Develop and implement performance metrics and evaluation systems for staff.
Manage employee relations and address any issues or concerns.
Work directly with arena staff/directors encouraging collaborative efforts to consistently evolve and improve programming efforts.
Oversee HR responsibilities with state regulations for employers.
6 . Relationship Management
Serve as the primary liaison with renters, vendors, sponsors, community partners, and local sports organizations.
Foster strong internal relationships with staff through clear communication and leadership.
Represent the arena in the community and at public events to build visibility and support.
Work closely with the Board of Directors and Pinnacle Indoor Sports to align on strategy and priorities.
Create a customer-first culture throughout the organization.
Ensure a positive, family-friendly environment for all guests and groups.
Handle feedback and concerns professionally and proactively.
Establish and communicate clear user policies for programs, leagues, facilities, rentals events, and participants/spectators.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in sports/recreation management, business administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility management, preferably in the sports, recreation, or ice arena industry.
Strong leadership, communication, and financial management skills.
Proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and deliver excellent customer experiences.
Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating agreements.
Experience with ice arena operations and recreational programming is a plus.
Highly organized, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement.
