We are seeking a General Orthopedic Surgeon to provide on-site support to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK. Relocation assistance package is negotiable for non-local candidates.

    So, what will the General Orthopedic Surgeon at Terrestris do?

    As the General Orthopedic Surgeon you will diagnose and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including injuries and disorders of the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. The surgeon will provide both surgical and non-surgical care to patients and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

    What does a typical day look like for the General Orthopedic Surgeon?

    You will:

    • Provide clinical orthopedic services and be present on time for any scheduled clinics/surgeries as documented by physical presence in the clinic or operating room at the scheduled start time.
    • Be present in the operating suite for all orthopedic procedures.
    • Conduct rounds on postoperative patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and on the wards.
    • Be present on time for any scheduled clinics/surgeries start times as documented by physical presence in the clinic or OR at the scheduled start time.
    • Provide notification of test results for patients receiving care in accordance with VHA Directive 1088, Communicating Test Results to Providers and Patients.
    • Follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
    • Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all orthopedic clinical or surgical patients.
    • Be responsible for patient care documentation.
    • Provide all Vascular Surgical Services by an attending or by residents with an appropriate level of on-site attending supervision as determined by VA guidelines (VHA Handbook 1400.01). Surgical services include pre-operative and post-operative evaluation and follow-up in addition to the operative session.
    • Evaluate the patient and write or sign and addend the resident's admission or pre-procedural note describing the findings, diagnosis, plan for treatment and/or choice of specific procedure to be performed.
    • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee participation as required by the facility Chief of Service, COS, or designee.
    • Attend staff meetings as required by the facility Chief of Service, COS, or designee.

    What qualifications do you look for?

    You might be the medical professional we're looking for if you have:

    • A current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
    • Board Certification / Board Eligibility by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS).
    • Current Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or equivalency.
    • Recent experience in arthroscopic procedures and orthopedic trauma/fracture care.
    • The requisite credentials enabling the granting of privileges in accordance with the provisions of VHA Directive 1100.20 and VHA Directive 1100.21.
    • Technical proficiency in the skills necessary to fulfill the position's requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
    • Verifiable evidence of the completion of all Continuing Medical Education (CME) / Certified Education Unit (CEU) Requirements.
    • Proof of:
      • A negative Tuberculosis Skin Test (TST) or interferon-gamma release assays (IGRA); a negative chest radiographic report for active tuberculosis shall be provided in cases of positive TST or IGRA results.
    • Immunity to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR).
    • Immunity to Varicella.
    • (1) dose of Tdap vaccination.
    • Annual Influenza vaccination unless it is contraindicated. If a contraindication to the vaccine exists, you will be required to wear a mask during the Influenza season.
    • Completion and passing generic self-study blood-borne pathogen training.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series and hepatitis B surface antigen test results following the hepatitis B vaccination series
